kepstin: It definitely seems distinct from stadium/arena.
kepstin: at least if we're talking about a motor racing track
kepstin
hmm. I suppose it depends. A NASCAR track is pretty much just a big stadium :)
CallerNo6 goes back into crank mode: I'd rather pull venue types from wikidata, and fix them there if they're not sufficient.
hawke1
+1 CallerNo6
kepstin
how has wikidata been so far at keeping stuff that wikipedia decides isn't "notable"?
CallerNo6
hmm. good question.
kepstin
we shouldn't be restricted from adding my buddies playing at a bar down the street just because the bar's not in wikipedia :)

hawke1, kepstin: I meant that Place type for both car racing tracks and hippodromes
hawke1
kepstin: yeah but the concept of "bar" is going to be in wikidata.
kepstin: also, to my knowledge wikidata is much better with regard to notability.
(Their biggest problem IMO is semantics and especially international equivalance of various things.
kepstin
Hmm. You're talking about linking place types to concepts in wiki data rather than pulling place types by seeing what the linked wiki data entry for the place says?
hawke1
kepstin: I think that's the idea, yeah.
CallerNo6
I was talking about both, but the former would be good start.

kepstin: >>"how has wikidata been so far at keeping stuff that wikipedia decides isn't "notable"?" The same way as wikibooks and wikiquote keep the stuff, which isn't related to articles
[mostly, wikibooks: on wikibooks you may publish your own original content and theoretically, give a link to it from wikipedia]
( "The story is told through a series of journal entries written by the story's protagonist, Charlie Gordon, a man with a low IQ of 68 who works a menial job as a janitor in a Plastic Box Factory. " )
JesseW is looking for encouragement to get around to adding the song http://www.peteralsop.com/song/garbage (which involves adding the author, Bill Steele)

Lawnmower Man is inside your head now
CallerNo6: What a reference
CallerNo6
dr_saunde, "works about gardeners and landscapers" should totally be a wikipedia category!

hibiscuskazeneko had no idea that movie existed
hibiscuskazeneko wonders if it's on Netflix

Studio vs Venue is easy to make icons for IMO (mixing board vs stage) but not sure whether it's needed
hibiscuskazeneko
It might be
hibiscuskazeneko is thinking of what icons would be used if we ever subdivided Venue
Wikidata notability is still a bit too restrictive IIRC but a bit better than enwiki's
(We've had issues with it in the past though)
hibiscuskazeneko
Notability? What's this about notability?

I remember that; the conversation happened around the same time I brought up these tickets to add more Place types
I wasn't sure if they were connected

Is there a good place to dump extra info like liner notes that dont belong in the file tags necessarily, but would be nice to reference from the musicbrains site
reosarevok
Define liner notes
If you mean data like "x played the guitar here" those are relationships and we do definitely want them
If you mean the liner text itself, not really (but scans can go in the cover art archive)
hibiscuskazeneko: well, not much has happened in style land for quite a while because of how hard it has been to get any decent discussion going :)
I'm hoping to change that with discourse
It'll also probably have, say, a classical music subforum, so it should be possible to have discussion on those style issues that are very specific on its own place where more people related to that specific field will see them
But we'll see about that bit :)
Important thing is though that every MB user will automatically have an account there (because it's their MB account) and that makes it much more accessible that the style list
rszasz
do I add the instrument played relationship to the release, or the individual recording?
and should the recording relationship be auto populated by the fact the artist is listed as the artist on the release/track?
JesseW
rszasz: if the liner notes or other information specify instruments played on specific tracks, add them to the recording. Otherwise, add them to the release.
(I'd say they should be added to the Release Group... but I don't think that's the prevailing style (or well supported by the code))
rszasz
and that means I just did it wrong... :(
going back and adding to tracks (though this is a bit painfull for just a few tracks and if they switched instruments?)
eh, it's not *wrong* to add it to the release even if you have more specific info
it's more of a problem (and not that much of one even then) if you guess that instruments just listed as being played on the release were played on every track
JesseW finds the new style kinda excessively white...
I miss the bold colors of the previous style...
maybe they'll come back
