Do we have an established standard about how to deal with artist credits of the form "<PersonA> of <unrelated group PersonA is a member of>"?
Putting the group into the artist credit feels weird because they didn't actually contribute anything, but putting it into the join phrase also doesn't feel right.
om what *is* this "it fels wrong to put $thing in the joinphrase" attitude thats going wrong?
er going on
elomatreb[m]
CatQuest: It feels like a hack, because it's clearly not a "join" phrase
I take it you're saying I should put it into the join phrase?
CatQuest
nah I'mwell I've done both myself so I really don't have an opinion. probably the *correct* is to pu it in the "join" phrase
it's worth noteing that we added the ability to have a trailing "join" phrase exactly *so* various things like & friends and other "not artists" parts of artist credits could be added proerøy
erh properly*
elomatreb[m]
I just remembered this edit (https://musicbrainz.org/edit/60004173), we both entered the same release and I put the credit on track 21 into the artist credit (not the join phrase though), but you're properly crediting the group
CatQuest
yea i probably shouldn't have done that (can't open the linklink because it's blanked by () :D )
I remember that, I had that in the "to make" (in an open tab) for too long after. that's why I made a dupe :D
are you merging them? probably merge into yours
wait are you the user "#"
no you have the same name
elomatreb[m]
They already are merged :)
CatQuest
yeps oops
elomatreb[m]
But yeah that open edit on the release is another thing I'm not too sure about
CatQuest
i'm voting no actualy. i want more reason than "don't do this" by an user called "#" :P
elomatreb[m]
I recall having a conversation about these compilation "label artists" before, but if we're going to have them it should probably at least be consistent
CatQuest
it shoudl be a consensus at the very least
I think it should be according if the "compilation lable artist" sees themselves as a "compilation artist group thing" or not
chiptunes = win certanly do
(also, hype! only 2 days and new release!)
elomatreb[m]: you can comment your "I recall having a conversation about.." on the edit yourself actually.
elomatreb[m]
I'm currently looking up the edits where I talked about it
CatQuest
👍
I'm going to go eat breakfast and put a dough of bread ecasue it is lammas and breadmass \o/ 🍞
Like, do you mean generic chiptunes compilations, or ones put out by Chiptunes = WIN, or something else?
CatQuest
it's fine if we decide this but I thikn we should come to an agreement first :)
antlarr
I guess I'm late for the conversation, but I don't think "Jon Greco of Weird at Last" is crediting two artists, but only one (named "Jon Greco of Weird at Last")
IMO, "of Weird at Last" is being used as a kind of disambiguation text in the eyes of whoever wrote that
elomatreb[m]: ^
elomatreb[m]
Yeah, or maybe a promotional thing (i.e. to say this isn't just Some Rando)
antlarr
right
elomatreb[m]
This was the track/recording that prompted me to ask initially, fwiw: https://musicbrainz.org/recording/25af875d-c66c... - I added the group as a join phrase, especially since it applies to both of the credited artists

CatQuest: there's thousands of bandcamp releases using the label name instead of various artists.
this one has some individual recordings credited to it

the official homepage of an artist is already gone but it's still in the web archive. Is it ok if I add the link to the web archive and set it to "official homepage" ?
finalsummer, CatQuest: they call themselves a "dynamic international chiptune collective". Whether that's an artist or just a label is a good question, but
