hi, I've been voted down here https://musicbrainz.org/edit/63352708 and while I agree with the no vote, I would like to ask something to get a deeper understanding of what a different recording is. Point is, on the original release of the recording there's an announcement at the beginning that takes approx. 40 seconds. Now I don't know for sure, bu

t I think it makes sense that the announcement is cut out in the compilation version. Is it still considered a new recording?

rey200: hi! I'd consider this a difference in editing, since actual sound has been cut. I'd relate the two ("x is an edit of y"), and add a disambiguation, "with spoken announcement" or whatever, to it :)

that sounds very sensible. Thank you, never even thought about a recording-recording relationship. Now I just have to find out if it's really an edit or wrong information on the cover ;)

I am talking about merging "synth wave" and "synthwave", for example

I don't know if tags have musicbrainz-style aliases or mediawiki-style redirects, but there has to be some way to avoid duplicates caused by different writing styles
