riddle me this: why does discogs have 2 obviously duplicate versions of the same release, one with the catalogue nr set to the UPC? c.f. https://musicbrainz.org/edit/69754285 (yes, also vote whoring)
hey all. been going through documentation, online examples and whatnot. trying to understand the structure of the data of music brainz, and how to properly query it. ive had some success, but i'd like to ask this question. How would one find what album, a song appeared on.
for example, what album did, artist=guns and roses, trackTitle=welcome to the jungle, appear on.
that should be queried from the 'release', database, correct?

sublim20: This query: https://musicbrainz.org/search?query=%22Welcome... will find you all the recordings of that title by artists with that name. Some of those recordings are on multiple releases, though…
I don’t believe you can search for releases by track title.
sublim20
crism, thanks for the response. theres gotta be a way
looks like the claim to be the US release was wrongly added by someone else

hi, in picard if I select multiple songs and drag&drop a new cover for them it doesn't work, it seems to only work for one song at time, is that a bug?

Rotab: hmm, yeah, it's too hard to tell. Hence my doubt what to do with it
meanwhile it has two disc ids, which are being shared with other releases...

Seeking advice regarding a comment added to an older edit of mine: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/59090858 -- can someone educate me on musicbrainz def'n of "remix" ?
Excellent. I feel like this shows that yes, it's "technically" a mash-up, but there's no suitable way to show that other than the "Remix" release group type
CatQuest
well there are recording-recording mashup links
and do take what is written there with grains of salt. things have changed after it!
(we shouls maybe update this, but the discusion on the talk page and put it into non-history again (or something))
reosarevok what do you know about remix/mix/dj-mix relationships+ release-group types? :D
yvanzo
Not sure why reosarevok moved it to history then, but that was about 10 years ago.
CatQuest
very likly because 90% of what's written on it is outdated or discussion
(se refrenches to "track-track" relations)

So, my plan is to ignore this comment then. :) There is no evidence to me that shows it is clearly NOT a remix -- if the user wants it changed, they can do so as musicbrainz was designed.

Not a lot :)
I'm not sure I'd call this a remix album either, but I'm not sure what I'd call it :D
So maybe Remix is the least bad
bricas
I'm good with that :)
thanks y'all.

after find a release group, or a releases id. how can one find/show track info for the item, (as in name of the position, etc)
hi, in picard if I select multiple songs and drag&drop a new cover for them it doesn't work, it seems to only work for one song at time, is that a bug?
cause that query returns the songs track position, and total number of tracks in the release section, but that's it.
in essence, the goal of the query is this, given an artist name, and recording name, what album does this appear on, and what are the tracks on that album?
it seems to do that, would require two queries, one to find the release ids, and then one to pull up that track info for that release
yvanzo
sublim20: AFAIK, it requires separate queries.
sublim20
yvanzo, got it. thanks for the help and conversation.
yvanzo
you're welcome :)
sublim20
heya, do you know of a link,or a website, that has a bunch of query examples? (besides the ones of the musicbrainz site)
haha. hmmm. *turns to judges* *judges murmur for a bit, but nod* we'll allow it
there's surprisingly few articles on the web showing example query usage on musicbrainz. and the documentation, while thorough, can be over whelming for a someone new
one copy seems to have the track artists all listed correctly, but listed the album artist as "various", despite it clearly being bang on a can (and was missing a lot of data). the other had almost everything correct, but many of the track artists were listed as "bang on a can"...
so both had errors, but not the same errors.
definitely would appreciate review from reosarevok if you get a chance.
reosarevok
echarlie: the general idea seems good, but the track artists should be changed
That said, I think the track titles for the one you're merging into are better, so just changing the track artists there is probably the best option
Yes, but the track artists should be the composers anyway since this is classical :)
echarlie
well "classical". :) indeed, this was in WUVT's "NCP Jazz" shelf, annoyingly seperated from all the rest of the CRi
but that makes a lot more sense; import causes quirks
on a related note there, track 6, "a pond within the drifting dusk" is quite emphatically not capitalised on the liner notes. This should be reflected in the tracklist, but not the recording title?
okay, I think I got that all right. still not sure how they're attributing these all to "bang on a can all-stars"; I know some of the albums were released as such, but not everything. I may correct that, too.
