I use keep me logged in too and seems to stay logged in but userscripts tell me otherwise, then I quit beta and rejoin beta and try my script again and it works

Some Bandcamp releases give the UPC in the description text. (Even, in one case, when the physical release had no barcode at all.: https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/21d0cbe9-...)
      • darwin
        sure, I use scripts
      • haven't changed anything in my setup for a long time
      • chaban
crism: that's done by the Bandcamp importer ;) https://community.metabrainz.org/t/454077/12
      • crism
chaban: Yes, I entered that Bandcamp release the other night using it. It is very nice. But as the UPC was in text there, it didn’t come through in the import. There is probably an iTunes version of that release (his other stuff seems to be on iTunes) but I don’t use iTunes and I don’t care. (-:

      • Gazooo794 joined the channel
      • yvanzo
oh ok, so importers may possibly need to be updated to keep working
      • I will check if anything can be made on MB server's side but I have no clue for now.
      • darwin
it's confusing tho, because I use the two primary importers I use, beatport and bandcamp, and they work 9 times, and then the 10th time I'm logged out
      • (not actual numbers, but for sense of scale)
      • yvanzo
I know bitmap avoided adding CSP to edit pages because of userscripts, but if a script accesses account pages, it might cause issues.
      • If it doesn’t, then it is not due to CSP but possibly to another change in MBS.
      • darwin: which browser do you use these scripts with?
      • darwin
        chrome for windows 10

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/73126555 - if his source is indeed spotify, that's not KR release (Spotify doesn't do business here in KR, and I can't sign up) - and the release name in KR release is different... just let this edit go thru and edit the release to match KR release or make a new release for KR release and make this non-KR release? I dunno

      • elomatreb[m]
        IMO the latter
      • Determining the release country in cases like these can be difficult, some people choose a single known-available country (e.g. the US) while others copy the "list of available markets" that the Spotify API returns (92 countries in this case)
      • revi
        Hmm, that makes sense.
      • At least I am 250% sure it's not for KR release
      • elomatreb[m]
Yeah, there is no KR among the available markets in any case
      • revi
Yeah, they ain't let me sign up
      • elomatreb[m]
Release countries for streaming platform releases are a complicated topic
      • revi
        Indeed :P
      • not really easy to find out where you can see and where you cannot see
      • elomatreb[m]
Having a huge list of countries for each Spotify release that changes constantly as they expand to or withdraw from markets is just as frustrating as a release claimed to be "Worldwide" when it's not available in a "reasonable" country like South Korea
      • revi
      • So not really possible
      • Korean music market is quite complicated
      • Apple music lacks like (more than) 50% of local releases in KR release because the largest music publisher is also a distributor with their own streaming service
      • and they don't want... new competitor
      • xtim_41 has quit
      • elomatreb[m]
I'm extremely surprised Spotify was able to operate in Germany, the musicians rights association here (GEMA) is famously complicated (e.g. they used to block nearly all music videos on youtube until Google effectively bribed them with an undisclosed sum)
      • MRiddickW joined the channel
      • revi
Maybe they bribed them secretly /joke
      • elomatreb[m]
Regarding the release above: It also has its medium set to "CD" (and incorrect featured artist credits...)
      • So it may indeed be a Korean version, but certainly not related to Spotify in any way
      • revi
Korean releases have [ ] part in Korean so it's quite mixed I think
      • elomatreb[m]
May also just be a newbie editor not understand when to select "Digital media", yeah
      • SothoTalKer
elomatreb[m]: maybe spotify just paid whatever GEMA demanded. Youtube tried to haggle.
      • revi
        Possibly that as well
      • elomatreb[m]
Very possible, but if Google tried to haggle it must have been a fairly substantial sum for some random Swedish startup (they have been available here basically since launch)
      • revi
I still struggle as well (I edit sporadically so I forget some part of relations each time I return)
      • SothoTalKer
      • youtube was a bit different because they argued who has to pay. google said the user who uploaded has to pay, GEMA said it is youtube who has to pay :D
      • revi
And btw is there any automatic way to remove 836 rotten links?
      • I wouldn't want to manually remove 836 URLs.....
      • (The domain in question is https://musicbrainz.org/ws/2/url?query=url:*.mn... - www.mnet.com redirects to http://www.cjem.net/business/music and release URLs like http://www.mnet.com/album/250815 responded with 404 not found

        only via a bot task
      • revi
and the rot is permanent - they just scrapped their distributor business
      • Then the question is who has such bot and willing to do it for me :P
      • elomatreb[m]
The links should be set as "ended", the Internet Archive may have a copy so the links themselves are still valuable to the database
      • revi
        hmm, indeed
      • elomatreb[m]
(which is a little bit hidden, if you go to the specific URL entitity pages you can edit them)
      • revi
still doing that for 836 en messe is quite... tedious
      • elomatreb[m]
If you know when they closed their distributor business, this can be set as the end date
      • revi
        2019-10-01
      • SothoTalKer
i wished the IA was faster
      • elomatreb[m]
Yeah, this is probably a task for either a bot or the administrators, they also do similar mass-URL-changes sometimes (e.g. HTTP->HTTPS)
      • Faster in picking up new pages?
