He is credited under different aliases for different works/gigs.
My confusion is where to add the aliases.
hibiscuskazeneko
If the stuff he makes under each name is not conceivably connected to one another, they can be considered separate projects, which necessitates separate artist entities.
harad
Under in the relationships tab there is "Performs As". Then there is an Aliases tab.
hibiscuskazeneko
I wouldn't use aliases in this case.
I'm not super familiar with electronic music and its conventions; there are better editors to ask about this.
Freso is a good one to ask, but he's not online right now.
harad
So I should remove XAMOUNT as an alias and add it as "performs as"
hibiscuskazeneko
Yes.
You can use Erik Flanagan as the hub to link them all together.
harad
ok. I will do that. Sometimes the DB hates me.
hibiscuskazeneko
It can be a tricky beast. I've been here 9 years and I'm still stumped by some aspects of it.
harad
I'm trying to do the right thing and ass as much detail as possible... but some of these guys are Ethereal, especially with electronic distribution
hibiscuskazeneko
And ephemeral
harad
That is a gospel comment in regards to that genre if I have ever read any!
I feel like eating service revolver; I just tried explaining to the GF what I was working on.
"Why do are you adding to the database. Why does it matter. Why don't you just use youtube. Why do you need to have more than 50 songs with you? yada yada yada...
hibiscuskazeneko
YouTube doesn't have everything
And even if it does, chances are it's not all available everywhere (e.g. where you live).
Been there, done that, been burned quite a few times.
Luckily I managed to import a CD from Japan that had it.
Also there's the omnipresent risk that something you like may be pulled for whatever reason. Recently Heart's 1985 self-titled album was pulled from digital services for no apparent reason.

Barry Manilow - You're Looking Hot Tonight?
hibiscuskazeneko
Yep. It's not available for me.
Probably geoblocked here in the US.
harad
That's what I was thinking.
It's Manilow... you aren't missing much. :-)
hibiscuskazeneko
Really? He has some really kick-ass stuff in his repertoire.
The other day I was watching a Q&A where Barry Manilow claimed streaming services (namely Spotify) had every album he ever recorded… the Ace Attorney fangirl in me was brought out in that moment, if you know what I mean.
harad
LOL yeah
Just giving you crap.
hibiscuskazeneko
It's hard to tell with him.
harad
kazeneko means outdoor animals, yes?
hibiscuskazeneko
No, it means "wind cat"
It was the name of a character I created when I was ~14
You're probably thinking of "noraneko" (野良猫), which translates to stray or alley cat
harad
ok. For some reason I thought it was japanese for outdoor creature. But... my language skills suck. I may have the romanji incorrect.
hibiscuskazeneko
You were partially right. "Neko" (猫) literally means "cat."
harad
Thank you for correcting me!
Fixed that edit.
hibiscuskazeneko
どういたしまして😉
harad
ah... and there is the hiragana to remind me that I am still partially illiterate. lol
