I've got a question regarding separate releases. Should hi-res releases of albums with the same barcode as the streaming release be added as a separate release? For example, should a HDTracks and Spotify link be added to the same release if their barocode, cover art, track list, etc are the same?

No, we don't differentiate releases based on format/resolution/bitrate. If the barcode, artwork, mastering, etc. are the same, they are a single release.

If the releases are "remastered" for the new format with audible differences then it might make sense to separate them in specific cases, but the format alone isn't sufficient reason.

Could I please get someone to check over this release I just added? https://musicbrainz.org/release/9052e9ec-50f2-4ff…

Specifically I'm not 100% sure I did the label artist relationships correctly.

      • highstrung
        The label artist relationships?
      • 2021-05-08 12857, 2021

      • highstrung
for tracks 2 and 7, i probably would use an artist credit closer to the format on bandcamp - "Emily Steinwall feat. Kyla Charter"
      • 2021-05-08 12823, 2021

      • highstrung
as far as the label, [no label] seems accurate
      • 2021-05-08 12833, 2021

      • aidalgol
Er, I dropped an "and' in there. Should be "label and artist credits".
      • 2021-05-08 12842, 2021

      • aidalgol
How do I enter a "featuring" credit like that?
      • 2021-05-08 12855, 2021

      • highstrung
edit the artist credit, there's a "join phrase" that defaults to " & " but can be changed to " feat. " (or whatever is appropriate)
      • 2021-05-08 12839, 2021

      • highstrung
just be aware that you need to include the spacing in the join phrase
      • 2021-05-08 12824, 2021

      • highstrung
there's potential inaccuracy in extrapolating release-level credits to recording level. Like, does Emily actually play both flute and saxophone on every track, or flute on some and saxophone on others?

highstrung: you should put it at a release level unless it applies to every recording equally, in that case
      • 2021-05-08 12810, 2021

      • evelyn
      • 2021-05-08 12817, 2021

yes, or often you can tell by listening which tracks have which instrument(s)
      • 2021-05-08 12839, 2021

      • evelyn
if you could do that then that would be ideal in my opinion
      • 2021-05-08 12833, 2021

      • evelyn
but it would probably be harder if e.g. there is a band and someone else plays that instrument too
      • 2021-05-08 12843, 2021

      • highstrung
        agreed on both counts
      • 2021-05-08 12821, 2021

      • highstrung
in this case there's only one musician credited with sax and flute
