      • i’m looking for the character that would evoque the most obviously possible a new tab/window link…
      • this one might not be so good…
      • oh but i could use the same image as the mb wiki (a 214 byte data URL)
      • but that’s like thousands more bytes than a character

How would one go about requesting to become an Auto-Editor? Can someone look at my editing history and deem me worthy or not?
      • kuno
cheezmo2: yes, existing auto-editors can nominate a user
      • napterk joined the channel
      • typically an editor does this if they come across the edits of a user often enough and see that those are good edits.
      • (I don't edit/vote much, so I don't nominate people)
      • cheezmo2
My editor name is "Cheezmo". I've been editing a few years, and there are some cleanups I've been trying to do to associate recordings properly that are a real pain when you have to wait a week to be able to see the new disambiguations, etc. I realize I'll have to impose some restraint. I'm curious if Auto-Editors can submit edits that still require normal voting if they are unsure of something.
      • JonnyJD_
        cheezmo2: yes, auto-editors can submit non-auto-edits
      • cheezmo2
        Good to know.
      • JonnyJD_
and you had to wait 2 weeks until recently
      • cheezmo2
Jonny: I was painfully aware of that!
      • kuno
cheezmo2: if you just need a few edits approved, just ask here for some help. there are quite a few auto-editors in the channel, one of us often can spare a few minutes to double check and approve a few edits.
      • cheezmo2
Maybe that is the way to do it, bug people enough and they'll want me to just auto-edit :-)
      • reosarevok joined the channel
      • OK, I just added a bunch of disambiguation to recordings on the new XTC Nonsuch blu-ray could someone approve those so I can fix the CD which was associated with the original mix and should be the new 2013 mixes?
      • nikki
        if it's a blu-ray, isn't it video?
      • cheezmo2
No, it is a blu-ray multiple audio track lists. Original stereo mix, 2013 stereo mix, 2013 instrumental mix, and 5.1 mixes.
      • There are 2 music videos.
      • Blu-ray audio is a new thing. the new Tommy box set has one in it too.
      • JonnyJD_
so it is a data blu-ray with files
      • there is something as blu-ray audio?
      • is the audio better than on dvd-audio?
      • cheezmo2
Yes, it is kind of like DVD-Audio, but on Blu-ray now.
      • Primarily audio only content. There is a whole bunch being released by Universal.
      • It isn't really a different format like DVD-Audio, it is just Blu-ray that only (or mostly) has audio only content.
      • JonnyJD_
well, I just read a bit and it sounds like this is something more BD players should support
      • cheezmo2
All blu ray players support it, there is nothing special about them
      • JonnyJD_
Super audio CDs and DVD-Audio wasn't supported much
      • well, that is reason enough for the format
      • cheezmo2
Yeah, if you are going to sell high resolution audio on disc, that is the way to go. But I think downloads will win out pretty quick.
      • JonnyJD_
cheezmo2: wouldn't be sure about that. Many high end players don't really support high resolution files
      • We have a radio in the kitchen that can play files from the network, but has problems with gapless playback
      • not sure how good it works with sonos or other "leading" products

Could someone look at my next round of edits to XTC Nonsuch, correcting the recording associations... https://musicbrainz.org/release/a989e3d2-e27c-4...
      • I want to add ISRCs for the CD but the recordings needed to be fixed first.
      • CatBuss joined the channel
      • My biggest problem is entering these DVD-Audio/Blu-ray audio releases that have multiple mixes (original, new, 5.1) on the same disc. After entering the track lists, adding all the disambiguations and not being able to see them for a week to know if it all looks right.
      • Would need a way to add disambiguation when creating a new recording on the new release edit.
      • JonnyJD_ voted
      • hawke_1
        Voted.
      • Strange annotation on that release
      • Also, two AcoustIDs for almost every track on disc 1…
      • JonnyJD_
should probably be cleared when ISRCs are attached
      • hawke_1
Wonder if someone got their mixes mixed up sometime
      • It looks like indeed they did.
      • “Omnibus” has a 9-second difference on that release compared to the others: https://musicbrainz.org/recording/0063add6-bb23...
      • But I suppose cheezmo2’s edits will fix that.
      • cheezmo2
It was initially entered with the CD referencing original recordings. That is the mess I'm trying to clean up.
      • And then I need to add the instrumental and 5.1 mixes to the blu-ray.
      • hawke_1
        Yep.
      • cheezmo2
Something that would be much easier for an Auto-Editor to clean up (hint hint).
      • And then I will get started on the new Who Tommy box set. Ugh.
      • I will make sure all the track time on nonsuch match my CD + Bluray set before I'm done.
      • Gonna run some errands and let that round of edits settle, thanks for the votes everyone.

      • I mean, Bill Cosby Theme vs. Mission Impossible?
      • JonnyJD_
if it also is "track x" and has the same length (and you don't have other information and don't actually listen..)
      • hawke_1
        I guess.
      • snartal
Well, on the bright side, the track is named properly, theme wise, for whoever wishes to clean it up!
      • hawke_1
luks: If you’re around, I think this AcoustID may have a wrong duration. ;-) https://acoustid.org/track/22269581
      • (I take it that it doesn’t validate the claimed duration against the actual data…)

      • cheezmo2

      • Freso
hawke_1: One tv theme mixed up with another tv theme doesn't seem that farfetched to me. They've probably been on the same compilation and someone mixed the order up when they tagged the files.
      • hawke_1
