        I'm adding a new release, have to count from 1 to 10 or A1 A2 ... B4 B5
      • derwin
        I believe both are supported..
      • kepstin-work
hihaho: if the album uses the A1, ..., B1, ... style, then you should use that on musicbrainz.
      • hihaho
        No it's just side1 1 to 5 and side 2 1 to 5
      • hawke_1
then A1…A5 and B1…B5 (is my recommendation)
      • kepstin-work
http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/User:Hawke/Proposal... is our current work-in-progress proposal on what to do
      • not official yet, but I think it's fairly close, at least on the 'Sides' section.
      • hawke_1
which is stalled because OMG you need to be allowed to write three paragraph descriptions of what the side looks like. But I’m not bitter.
      • hihaho
ok, so I will use that
      • thanks

Red Allen [and] The Kentuckians? or Red Allen [and] the Kentuckians?
      • nikki
is "[and]" supposed to be the join phrase?
      • function1
        yes
      • nikki
I would do the former, or use "and the" as the join phrase
      • which doesn't really narrow down the options, but whatever
      • nikki didn't claim to be being helpful, after all :P
      • function1
that was my first guess actually
      • but 'the' didn't sound like a join phrase
      • or like it belonged in a join phrase
      • nikki
my reasoning is that either "the" is part of the artist name and should be capitalised, or isn't actually part of the artist name and should be lowercase and in the join phrase instead
      • function1
makes sense. i must have been overthinking this one
      • warp
nikki: that sounds way too sensible :)
      • kepstin-work
function1: are you sure "Red Allen and the Kentuckians" isn't a group that happens to have the lead singer's name in its name?
      • i.e. you should only add The Kentuckians as a separate artist if they are a group on their own that happened to at some point in time collaborate with Red Allen as independant artists
      • if Red Allen was a member of the Kentuckians and they changed their name after he left, then you should have "Red Allen and the Kentuckians" as an artist credit for "The Kentuckians"
      • function1
        kepstin-work: it's a little ambiguous
      • Red Allen is definitely a member/founder, there's a discogs artist 'the kentuckians', a separate MB artist 'the kentuckians' (though all the AC's happend to be Red Allen [&] The Kentuckians), also on the release i'm looking at there is an AC for Red Allen, Frank Wakefield, and The Kentuckians
      • i don't think that last AC would be possible without separate artists
      • mchou_ joined the channel
      • ijabz joined the channel
      • kepstin-work
hmm. that last one's a bit weird, because it's basically a feat artist stuck in the middle of the artist name.
      • kepstin-work would *probably* call the group "Red Allen and the Kentuckians", and do something weird for that weird track.
      • function1
wait, here's some additional context from liner notes: "In 1959, Red moved to Washington, D.C., and re-formed the Kentuckians with the important addition of mandolin innovator Frank Wakefield."
      • kepstin-work
ah, so the Frank Wakefield version is just the band renamed themselves when they got a second featured artist
      • function1
seems that way. so two separate artists, with and without Wakefield?
      • kepstin-work
no, a single artist, with aliases that include/exclude Wakefield
      • function1
        ok

i tried that once, but my android tablet isn't very good :)
      • derwin
I tried that once and realized how much I hit "alt" and "tab" in irc
      • Ben\Sput
Yeah wait till you try using it on a phone
      • kepstin-work
this is a small tablet running android 2.3
      • it basically acts like a phone
      • ZaphodBeeblebrox has irc on android. it works fairly well but reconnects often
      • except with really bad battery life, it's a bunch heavier, and only has wifi
      • Ben\Sput
        Although swiping works quite well
      • ZaphodBeeblebrox
        bensput what irc client?
      • kepstin-work
yeah, and you lose your connection when it falls asleep :)
      • function1
i have an ssh client on my iphone, connect then screen to irc :)
      • kepstin-work
        function1: probably works better :)

      • kepstin-work has swype keyboard on his tablet, which is nice
      • kepstin-work
aside from swype not knowing it's a tablet, so i can't use the split tablet keyboard :/
      • Ben\Sput
Not sure if I can ping people though
      • ah well I'll be back on desktop in a bit
      • kepstin-work
wow, this tablet only has 265mb ram
      • firefox runs ok on it, once it loads :)

Is there a way to implement something that would reject these types of "cover art" since it's not cover art but a picture of the package?
      • Those annoy me *so* much when I'm looking for cover art...
      • Are they too lazy to take the cover art out to scan it?
      • Jozo
kyomi: cover art comes from ASIN. You may want add correct cover art (discogs has some..) and please add catalog number and barcode to that (deluxe) release :)
      • kyomi
I do not have that release
      • I was just commenting on how horrible that cover art was :/
      • I have another one.. I'm going through my music with mp3 diags to fix bad files and APIC problems :)
      • Jozo
kyomi: You have 16 tracks on your MP3 release? Discogs has only 17 track deluxe editions (so I'm not going to edit this release)
      • kyomi
I don't know how many are on the actual version, I delete the ones I don't like
      • Jozo
        :/
      • kyomi
Well, there's no point in wasting space with a song I don't like just to have a "complete" set :P
      • reosarevok
It's a better representation of the release than no cover at all
      • If someone is annoyed, that's why they can upload a better version :)
      • kyomi
I'd rather have no cover at all instead of the picture of the case as cover art :/
      • reosarevok
(no, I don't like it either, and if it was uploaded to the CAA I'd ask them to re-scan without the package if possible)
      • (but it's certainly better)
      • Well, it's more useful in MB proper
      • I'm not too sure about the tagger - a way to say "reject this cover art" might be useful
      • kyomi
To me, that's like saying Lupus is better then the black plague
      • reosarevok
        -heh
      • Well
      • kyomi
If what we were talking about before gets implemented, it'll solve that issue :)
      • reosarevok
One of the uses of the cover images is to help people recognise the release
      • and this is good enough for *that*
      • kyomi
About allowing you to select what cover art you want, even if it doesn't match the release you have :)
      • reosarevok
Another is to give pretty images
      • (and for that admittedly it isn't too great)
      • kyomi
        I like pretty images :)
      • reosarevok
So do I,I'm just explaining why it is better than nothing from the MB point of view :)
      • kyomi
Mainly why I'm going through my ~100GB music collection and re-tagging and adding cover art :)
      • Is it me, or is MB kinda... drunk today?
      • Jozo
(I think that release is bogus anyway... barcode from ASIN find 17 track releases...)
      • reosarevok
        I don't know if you're drunk or not :)
      • But MB is having some issues it seems, yes
      • kyomi
        Ahh, ok
      • Sometimes that happens with Picard
      • I'll just close it and re-open it and it's fast again
      • Umm.. real cover art for a fake release? http://musicbrainz.org/release/2530c92f-31c7-47...
      • I'm just assuming that works.. since it is technically the real cover art even though it's some what of a bootleg release
      • reosarevok
Well, if it's the release cover it is
      • Whatever the release itself *is*
      • derwin
18:25 < kyomi> I don't know how many are on the actual version, I delete the ones I don't like
      • WAT
      • kyomi
        How is that funny?
      • A release could have 10 tracks.. and I might only keep 2, 5, and 8.. how am I supposed to know it had 10 tracks?
      • It could be weeks, months or years since I tagged it or even did anything with it
      • So... question, how would I fix a bootleg album that is completely wrong?
      • reosarevok
        How wrong is that?
      • kyomi
I'd post the information to it.. but it's on a torrent site and don't want to post that here
      • Sure, it's just a comment but it makes complete sense
