so different from modern mastering...

the jewel cases one some of these are so old they have 'patent pending' markings on them :)

it's amusing that I have some cd cases with 'patent pending' written on them, but I can't find any that have a patent number.

'patent pending' means that they have filed a patent application with a patent office, but have not yet been granted a patent.

it provides some protection by indicating that a patent has been file, so that people will know to check if the patent has been granted/rejected before copying it.

http://www.google.com/patents/USD440108 appears to be a design patent covering the current standard jewel case design, but the file date is listed as April 10, 2000, which makes no sense...

but that design has never been used as far as I know. It's a bit strange-looking :)

Can picard be made to overwrite files instead of adding a (1) to the filename and adding the extra file

cd shop near me has a cd scratch fixing service tho where they refinish cds, guess I should make use of it :)

Yep, that's "compilation" in the iTunes / music player sense

so if you have a track artist and a release artist it's a compilation

If they're different, yes - but you can change that with tagger script
