hmm... I was wrong. Not even 3rd did work. Now I got "Caught exception in MusicBrainz::Server::Controller::ReleaseEditor::Add->add "Can't use an undefined value as a HASH reference at lib/MusicBrainz/Server/Wizard.pm line 268." on last page when adding a note
      • added all full errors to this: http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-5806

How does one reliably find the release date for something? If the copyright date isn’t reliable, what else is there?
      • Freso
        hawke_1: Notices on web sites.
      • nikki just looks on the release because japan is cool like that :P
      • hawke_1
        ?
      • nikki: Lucky. :-p
      • nikki
        :D
      • Freso
hawke_1: If the release is from when MySpace was big, you can often find something there.
      • hawke_1
Freso: I’m mostly thinking about pre-1995 releases. :-D
      • Lotheric
sometimes you can find release dates on label websites
      • Freso
hawke_1: A lot of more recent ones have Facebook events for release parties etc., so you can dig through Facebook pages' events.
      • hawke_1: Yes, Facebook probably doesn't work for that. :D
      • Lotheric
        or artist websites
      • Freso
hawke_1: Hint, if the site says 1700 or earlier, it's most likely wrong.
      • hawke_1
I actually usually use copyright date unless it’s obviously wrong.
      • Freso
        Just saying.
      • hawke_1
        or discogs, ’cos they’re trustworthy.
      • Freso
I use it if there's no better data or contradicting data available.
      • hawke_1
But I have no idea where they get their info from, or if it’s just a guess like I am doing. :-)
      • a lot of them seem awfully precise for being just a guess, but still.
      • Freso
Okay, this release is from 1972 at the earlist and 1979 at the latest.
      • A D8 will do.
      • Freso rolls
      • 1976 it is.
      • Freso rolls D12
      • September.
      • >_>
      • hawke_1
        :-D
      • Lotheric
        Freso: Are you a D&D player ? :P
      • Freso
        Lotheric: No.
      • Lotheric: I never really liked (A)D&D.
      • Lotheric
        you know your dice!
      • Freso
Lotheric: Too fighting focused, not enough RP.
      • Lotheric: Sure. There are RPGs besides (A)D&D.
      • Lotheric
        Freso: I like 2nd edition
      • Freso
Lotheric: WFRP was my first and true RPG system love.
      • But I quite like FUDGE as well.
      • Lotheric
Freso: Is this Warhammer fantasy ? I have the rulebook but never played
      • Freso
        Lotheric: It is, yeah. :)
      • nikki
hawke_1: I wouldn't complain about a copyright date if someone actually mentions it in the edit note (so that anyone checking later can be like "ah, so that's why it's not quite right"), if you're pretty sure you've got the original release, that is
      • Freso
Lotheric: I have the 2nd and 3rd ed. Never got around trying 3rd ed. :(
      • Lotheric
Freso: I have an old edition from the 80's, with Gotrek & Felix on the cover
      • Freso
Lotheric: And except for a few extremely hardcore ones, no one's done 1st ed. :p
      • Lotheric: That might actually be 1st ed. :p Though 1st and 2nd are very similar.
      • 2nd to 3rd are a much bigger leap.
      • Freso is geek, btw, in case anyone didn't notice yet
      • Lotheric is geek as well hehe
      • Lotheric: If you still play, you should check FUDGE. It's a nifty and small system, freely available.
      • Lotheric
Freso: I wanted to start DMing a campaign with Myth & Magic (it's like AD&D 2.5 sort of)
      • Freso: but the books are so slow to get out and I don't want PDFs
      • "Just fudge it" haha
      • seems a bit simplistic for my taste though
      • Freso
Lotheric: That's one of the things I like about it. :)
      • Lotheric: I really think the roleplaying should be about roleplaying, not rollplaying.
      • Lotheric
Freso: I need a good mix of both
      • Freso
And the more rules and system you put on top, the less role and the more roll it becomes.

You guys support the discnumber tag, correct?
      • Freso
        "You guys"?
      • wjtaylor_: Please be more specific.
      • reosarevok
        Picard I assume :p
      • wjtaylor_
If I have a multidisc set, there is a field in your db that tells what disc # the track belongs to
      • Freso
        Yes.
      • Lotheric
anyone good with foobar2000 titleformatting ?
      • I'm trying to improve this : '['b']'%tracknumber%.'[''/'b']' '['i']'%artist%'[''/'i']' - %title% '('%length%')''[''/'size']'
      • so it can add [size=1] before the first ( in the %title%

hi Freso. Ah ok, you meant I add two releases from DiscID then merge them. Because of technical constraints, yes indeed, that’s what I do. :)

        I did before first asking… I didn’t understand, really.
      • btw I added a ticket that is following one of your fixes ! http://userscripts.org/scripts/fans/81127

      • but
      • jesus2099 says « people stop being logged in but not there » in IRC, it’s worse :)
      • anyway I always get read the answers to my questions and thank afterwards
      • do we really have to create TWO tickets in JIRA for on RFC ?
      • a STYLE ticket and an MBS ticket ?
      • couldn’t we just transform the STYLE ticket into MBS after votes ?

question - how do people expect a cd ripper to handle ripping multiple singles with the same name ?
      • (imagine musicbrainz doesn't know much about the difference except that there are multiple releases in that release group with the same name)
      • Leftmost
        I generally rename between rips.
      • Or do you mean tracklist?
      • Err, I asked that poorly.
      • Do you mean how to select which release is the correct one?
      • thomasvs
        no, that part's fine
      • I mean naming the output directory
      • right now, morituri assumes it should overwrite or continue the rip
      • I'm adding smth to detect that it's about to overwrite a successful rip of another version
      • so I want to come up with a new name somehow for the second release
      • Leftmost
You could just do the general (1) sort of thing.
      • Unless there's a disambig comment.
      • thomasvs
        hm, yeah
      • is for example 'green' a valid disambiguation comment ?
      • to indicate that this is commonly known as the green single ?
