      • kepstin-laptop joined the channel
      • hmm, anybody here? i just ran into a kind of issue i've never encountered before:)
      • there was a release with protected track durations. but the songs names were switched over each other. now it tells me i can't change it because it's disc id attached, blabla. what can i do?:)
      • derwin
        hi
      • I unfortunately don't know
      • but ppl are often here.
      • culinko
i know 5:27 is not the best time to ask:)
      • derwin
        well it's 830pm here
      • portik
0630 am reporting but dunno the solution
      • culinko: can you post url?
      • navap
culinko: Were you renaming the tracks or trying to reorder them?
      • culinko: With a disc ID attached you won't be able to reorder the tracks
      • culinko
i just opened parser and copied there new text
      • won't let me to recordings tab
      • i'll try edit the tracks one by one
      • ianmcorvidae
yeah, the parser probably isn't that smart
      • sad though that is
      • culinko
well actualy no, it was my fault
      • had only 12 tracks in parser while there are 13 tracks, at least seems so
      • ianmcorvidae
        ah, well, that'd do it
      • culinko
        actually
      • there are 13 tracks, but when i click on recordings tab, i get the warnings and have 12 tracks there only
      • ill try without parsing
      • was able to proceed
      • strange
      • ianmcorvidae
the parser probably changed something strange that it shouldn't have
      • culinko
well there were only track numbers and titles

      • culinko
        okay
      • mr_maxis
        culinko: note added
      • culinko
yes, that would be the right way. i can cancel the edit and create a new release. i never moved discIDs before (didn't even know they are moveable), so it would be the first-time experience kinda :P
      • reosarevok
        It's very easy :)
      • culinko
well it will be one more thing i will learn:)
      • mr_maxis
reosarevok: the edit counter on user page is supposed to be real-time? because mine look like frozen since yesterday at least... the vote counter updates correctly though
      • reosarevok
Maybe it's related to the pending edits disabling
      • (see the blog)
      • mr_maxis
        oh
      • I see
      • culinko
it's so confusing without the orange markings :S
      • ianmcorvidae
it's pending edits and editor stats stuff, yes
      • so the listing on your user page won't update at present
      • that the vote counter updates may be an oversight, heh
      • CatCat
re http://musicbrainz.org/edit/18521754 culinko, you should know that most times that the tracklist is "wrong" it's that you have the wrogn release. ior in this case the disc id is on the wrong release, reordering tracks or renamign thme is most often than not incorrect
      • CatCat really wishes that reordering tracks aqnd such wasn't so easy :(
      • ahah i've fixed all the "Lonesome Travel(l)er" in the db :] ... go do a search for works "Lonesome Travel(l)er"
      • ahahha
      • CatCat is pleased
      • culinko
ye, i've learned a lessen from that
      • okay, moved the discid to the new release. that was easy :D
      • CatCat
        it is
      • culinko
i got more into the musicbrainz process :D
      • reosarevok
        Be afraid
      • Be very afraid
      • After a while you can't get out!
      • culinko
well i was just quoting one user's edit message :P
      • reosarevok wonders where in SK culinko is
      • teh capital:)
      • reosarevok
        heh
      • No wonder you've been to Austria then
      • You could probably bike there
      • culinko
        yea
      • even some local traffic goes into wolfstahl from bratislava
      • to*

culinko: don't quote informant, that guy is no good :s
      • culinko

Good morning! I added a new release at http://musicbrainz.org/release/fe665a5a-3511-47... . This is a course in ancient Egyptian for French speakers, published by Assimil.
      • There were actually two sets of track titles available: One in hieroglyphics, and one in French. I went with the French track titles because hieroglyphics (1) require rare fonts, (2) use characters outside the Unicode Basic Multilingual Plane, and (3) don't really render correctly in Unicode, because there's no way to do 2-dimension layout.
      • reosarevok
You could add a second release in hieroglyphics, for people who want that
      • (as pseudo-release, linked to the French one with a "translated tracklist" relationship)
      • ekidd
        Ah, that would be fun.
      • I'll see if my input method allows me to type enough of the characters.
      • Anyway, how does voting work for something really obscure like this? I'd hate to have all the data expire without anyone ever looking at it.
      • reosarevok
If it expires without anyone looking at it, it will pass
      • (and be accepted)
      • Voting is mostly so people can see it and *avoid* it being accepted if it's wrong
      • ekidd
Oh, OK. That makes sense. I had trouble figuring out the edge cases in the voting algorithm.
      • culinko
i think only the high quality edits fails without a vote (not sure)
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • And that will change soon
      • Well, soon
      • When some developer implements the changes requested in style
      • ekidd
Final question: Each of these tracks corresponds to a lesson in the book, numbered 1-101. There would be significant utility in having the lesson numbers in the track titles, or at least continuing the track numbering from one disk to the next. But that seems like the kind of thing that should be discussed first.
      • reosarevok would see it reasonable to title them like Lesson 1: Title ... Lesson 101: Title
      • Yeah, "Leon 1:" would work fine, I think. Thank you!
      • voiceinsideyou joined the channel
      • Ow, this "502 Bad Gateway" stuff just ate 101 release -> track connects.
      • connections.
      • culinko
        just click back
      • it should be there
      • ekidd
Nope, it was the "Select a recording for updated track" bit.
      • Editing 4 CDs of track names generates a whole pile of edits. :-/
      • Thank you for helping a newbie figure out how to submit to MusicBrainz!
      • How long will I typically need to wait before my edits are available to my CD ripping software?
      • ianmcorvidae
was this for a release add? if so, it should be available now (though it won't be in the search indexes, I suppose)
      • reosarevok
If it was editing, then... it depends, usually needs the edits to pass
      • _flow_ joined the channel
      • ekidd
Yeah, I can see the original add, but not the update with the lesson numbers we just discussed, so that makes perfect sense.
      • culinko
look in your userinfo for open edits, they should pass after 14 days or till you get 3 yes votes
      • ekidd
Too much work to ask anyone to vote, anywayediting track names for a CD set generates pages of individual edits. Will wait the 14 days.
      • Thank you for such a great database, and for all your help!
      • culinko
well there are so many edits, because you edited the recordings too:)
      • reosarevok
Which is probably a good thing, but as long as the tracklist edits pass that's enough for tagging
      • culinko
but you can be sucked into the system like a rest of us :D
      • culinko thinks Serena is on fire
      • derr84 joined the channel
      • ekidd
I do have a lot of very weird CDs, and I sometimes re-rip them with various software packages, which means this probably won't be my last submission.
      • CatCat
        lol good morning
      • [14:48] reosarevok(as pseudo-release, linked to the French one with a "translated tracklist" relationship)
      • actually if the release waspublished with both then it wouldn't be psuedo thoguh, would it?
      • reosarevok
I know, you could argue the French is the pseudo
      • Maybe
      • Except that adding two official entries for the same thing is ARGH PLEASE NO
      • CatCat
        yeal
      • alternate tracklists for the same release omg
      • CatCat totally wants to see the hieroglyph version
      • culinko
hmm, if i want to submit fingerprints, can i do it from picard or do i need acoustid fingerprinter?
      • reosarevok
You can do it from Picard, but only while you tag
      • Ok, not exactly
      • But for submitting stuff you have tagged already you'd need to move it to the left pane, scan it, and then move it back to the right one and submit
      • So it's easier to just use the fingerprinter
      • culinko
hmm, so if i want to submit fingerprints directly from an audio cd, how could i do it?:)
