Since the main argument I've seen for merging legal + performance has been "it gets out of sync"

I guess if the person lived in one place and used a performance name there, then moved and left that name behind, it would be useful

i.e. display on the page/return in the WS the 'inherited' one, but allow setting another for things like country-specific performance names

SultS: yeah, I think of the chinese members of one of the jpop groups I listen to -- they went by japaneseifications of their chinese names while in the group

admittedly they haven't released anything, as far as I know, under their chinese names

but the japaneseified names should probably be country:JP, while the people are definitely country:CN

I do agree it's a bit of overkill to have a separate artist for that

(since those are derivations of their legal names)

(also things like junjun/linlin, which right now don't have legal-name artists IIRC)

ah, the sortname has a space in it

me adds 'JunJun' as an alias so it actually appears in the stupid search :P

(I mean, obviously *I* wouldn't complain if you did only have one artist with the legal name as an artist, but whether that's how it should be, dunno...)
