huh, interesting. the /file size/ of the public domain musicbrainz data (mbdump.tar.bz2) is larger than the freedb or discogs database dumps.
even though we have fewer artists and releases.

I found dump file but I don't know anything about freedb. :/
kepstin blames the fact that musicbrainz stores more information per release.
as I search in musicbrainz search tool for Freedb, I doesn't look like good.

heh, moved my mbz to-do list from open tabs in opera to a sticky note, so now i have *only* about 30 tabs open. which means that in addition to favicons, tab bar now also shows some text. which feels unbelievably weird :P
ehrgeiz
XD tabgroups ftw!
v6lur
oh yes. sooo useful for grouping pages related to some release i intend to improve sometime in the future :P

Are there any old-timers here who can answer some historical MB questions?
I've been looking at the statistics and have some questions.
What caused the dropoff in active editors starting in 2006?
Any idea why active editors appears to have stabilized in late 2008 and remained fairly constant since?
The stats for open edits sort of appears to have reacted to the decrease in active editors, that is, in mid-2007 there is a jump up of open edits and it's been significantly above the ~6000 level that had always existed previously.

2006 i think was the removal of mb from google search the mid-2007 jump in edits was i think advanced relationships
brian123
Ahh, so with fewer MB hits in Google post-2006, do we think that fewer people discovered MB at all and hence fewer editors joined up?
drsaunde
i would say so

brian123: increase of open edits mid-2007 is due to introduction of data quality: since then, edit are open for 2 weeks by default (and not 1 week anymore)

hmm, looks like modbot is back after taking the weekend off :-)
ocharles
drsaunde: yea, I just fixed it
drsaunde pats ollie on the back
drsaunde
now if you could only get the bot to run another orphaned recordings cleanup :-)
ocharles
sure, I can do that
but...
I'd like to wait til some of the other related stuff passes review first
We're going to need a report for that though, because it doesn't remove recordings that have any data associated (tags, ratings, relationships, etc)
drsaunde
although presumably recordings from an add release that was cancelled or voted down wouldn't have those things
ocharles
some do :)

hi all!
ocharles
hello
xplt
I'm trying to add my first "Add release" edit to the MB, since the new scheme. It's a new album on Jamendo, so I'm a bit confused about "Packaging" field... What should I choose for digital download? "None"?
reosarevok_ joined the channel
nikki
yes, none
xplt
nikki: thanks

nikki, do you have this list of number of rels per type around
