Are there alternatives interfaces for musicbrainz, or a lib to code one?
2011-04-02 09230, 2011
nikki
unfortunately the web interface is the only want to add releases
2011-04-02 09238, 2011
nikki
er, the only way
2011-04-02 09250, 2011
nikki
there are libs out there for reading data from mb though
2011-04-02 09253, 2011
konr
nikki: it wouldn't be hard to write a client to deal with it, right?
2011-04-02 09215, 2011
konr
with the adding process
2011-04-02 09224, 2011
nikki
hmm... it's not hard to write things to seed the release editor
2011-04-02 09257, 2011
nikki
but submitting an entire release without using the web interface at all is harder since you'd need to find artist ids and stuff, and I doubt we'd condone it right now for various reasons
2011-04-02 09206, 2011
nikki
it is something quite a few people have expressed an interest in though

I would have a look at picard's add cluster as release, that lets you take an unmatched cluster and open the site with the track names already filled in
2011-04-02 09249, 2011
konr
that'd be very useful!

3% of albums were correctly detected and a lot of false positives were generated. Is the correct procedure to delete these and add every everything else by hand?
And I found out that they seem to just use "Mascara" and "Ceremonial Dagger"
2011-04-02 09233, 2011
reosarevok
Nah, that's the "genre"
2011-04-02 09240, 2011
reosarevok
They all love to use these weird symbols
2011-04-02 09241, 2011
CatCat
i give fuck all about genre
2011-04-02 09209, 2011
CatCat
idf that's the line then Mascara and Ceremonial Dagger should be the sort name
2011-04-02 09223, 2011
reosarevok
Yeah, I found it later
2011-04-02 09228, 2011
reosarevok
In this case it even makes some sense

i have this pet peeve with (usually english speaking) bands/etc that use "unicode" for "oohh i'm so cool" effect (not including heavy metal umlaut)
2011-04-02 09227, 2011
CatCat
things liek tool or whatver callign an album "Ænima" thinkign it sounds liek something it totally doesn't
2011-04-02 09242, 2011
reosarevok
Well, I've always found the heavy metal umlaut equally silly
2011-04-02 09246, 2011
reosarevok
But yeah, it is silly

If a release is a track-by-track remix of another
2011-04-02 09219, 2011
CatCat
it looks like they used a computer and went through charmap looking for "exotic stuff" that "kinda looks like another letter"
2011-04-02 09228, 2011
reosarevok
Should I add the AR to the releases as well as the tracks?
2011-04-02 09235, 2011
CatCat
uh...
2011-04-02 09238, 2011
reosarevok
And yeah, I bet that's basically what they did

CatCat
i think.. idk? i think remix album link is for when the album is a remixed into one song..
2011-04-02 09209, 2011
CatCat
but remix album -album... idk
2011-04-02 09215, 2011

CatCat

2011-04-02 09228, 2011
CatCat
re heavy metal umlaut: i think it's the severity of it, if a band or thing does it just a little it's ok i think, just for fun. but if the whole everything is liek that. lame
2011-04-02 09233, 2011
CatCat
you know? not overdo it
2011-04-02 09202, 2011
