They're certainly not one release, they're a series
warp
reosarevok: well, yes. I agree my solution for this particular release is just as wrong as putting them as seperate releases in the same release group :)
reosarevok thinks it makes perfect sense to have one release for all
reosarevok also thinks podcasters should give better tracklists, but that's not in our hand to change :p
reosarevok
*for all -> for each
warp
we really need some proper series support for that to be useful.
reosarevok
In which way?
(we should think of getting proper series support anyway, but still)
warp
if I'm going to view a podcast in musicbrainz, I want to get a list of episodes.
warp: Well, call them "Series Name, Date" and you get a nice ordered list
dubwai
in one cover one artist have 3 diffrent spelling :-D
reosarevok
dubwai: kill the artist and bury his body
("Series Name, Date: Title" if it has a title)
warp: it becomes kind of a problem if each episode should be attributed to a different artist (FACT mixes have that, although I don't know if you'd call that a podcast)
But you could always use a "label" for it if you want a hack
It's a smaller hack than any other option
warp
reosarevok: why would it be a problem?
reosarevok
Because there's nowhere to find them nicely listed
(UI problem rather than data problem)
warp
I don't understand the issue.
reosarevok
You said you wanted a list of episodes
warp
yes
reosarevok
If all podcasts are under the same artist, some simple standardising of titles gives you that list
All in one place
warp
ah, like that
as I said, I think we need some proper series support :D
reosarevok
Of course
But that needs developing :p
reosarevok is thinking of what to do before it arrives
After all, one thing is passing a decision through style, and other getting it done
reosarevok looks at the no barcode checkbox and whistles
;)
Once we get the proper support, series will need to be adapted to it anyway, so having some temporary guidelines for them wouldn't hurt
basically i can't know if i'm the put of a joke here or if i ma just not gettign it
reosarevok
(except checking if the release is actually the same, and removing the link if not)
CatCat: no joke
CatCat
wich amounts to the same but i digress
ok
reosarevok
You're just not getting it :(
CatCat
well it's not my fault
reosarevok
But it wasn't mean
kepstin-laptop
Shisma: you're not supposed to add a series as a release group, in most cases. Each volume in the series should have its own release group.
Mineo
oh-oh, what have I done to CatCat ?:P
CatCat
well you shoudl think a bit about what looks like "mean"
Shisma
there is no styleguideline yet
CatCat
yea that :p
reosarevok
Mineo: confuse him, clearly
Shisma
so we should experiment with it i think
CatCat
don't do this when you're serious -> :p <-
reosarevok
kepstin-laptop: this might be related to the podcast issue, for which there's no guideline indeed
CatCat
:(
bricas wonders if there could be an option in picard to pick from the available cover art options?
CatCat is confused yea.. as long as you're not making fun of me!
Leftmost
Shisma, the intended scope of a release group is a set of releases of the same "album".
kepstin-laptop
we really could use some way of putting series or related releases grouped somehow in general :/
CatCat
I am made fun of a lot.. it's oftn the spelling or some other thing
:(
ok!
Mineo
CatCat: I was trying to say "you don't need to know of every single bug the server has, but before dubwai and you confuse yourselves, I'm telling you that dubwai hit abug"
CatCat
oh!
then *SAY* that then d:
^____^
thanks Mineo
Shisma
but there is no such thing as an "album" in terms of podcasts
reosarevok
kepstin-laptop: that was what warp was saying :p
CatCat
yea this. what *is* a podcast?
reosarevok
CatCat: as far as I understand it, both a series of internet-based "radio programs" and each one of those programs
But I've always been bad at definitions
So maybe check the wiki
(Wikipedia, I mean, not MB Wiki(
CatCat
so like.. would an sixxmixx count?
it was on the radio
Leftmost
Shisma, that's why I put "album" in quotes. I'd say if the contents are substantially different, it's probably not the same release group. (Meaning if there's almost no shared content, or presumably as is the case with a podcast, none.)
CatCat
orgininally
reosarevok doesn't know where the limit is, CatCat
kepstin-laptop
any guidelines that are created for podcasts would probably also be applicable to other recurring radio programs.
Shisma
CatCat: some podcasts are also produced as radio shows
reosarevok
kepstin-laptop: I think they would probably be quite broadly applicable myself, yes
But clearly we need some written
warp
CatCat: radio shows are a bit different in that they're usually only played on the radio.
reosarevok would still vote for "Series Title, Date: Individual Title", and each one as an individual release / release groups
reosarevok
CatCat: of course, nowadays, it's not strange for a radio to play programs and also put them for download (like rinse.fm does)
warp
CatCat: so other people recording them, sometimes only some episodes, sometimes all of them, and make a sort of bootleg release of whatever they recorded.
kepstin-laptop
one of the CBC radio stations in canada has a "podcast" which is to introduce new artists - it consists of just a spoken introduction, followed by a song.
