are they for cover art, for information or for purchasing?
this has popped up quite a lot for me in this voting sprint
(btw, hi there, first time in the chat)
actually the question is, should we allow ASINs when the track lists are different but the covers are the same?
and when the release is the same but it doesn't provide a cover?

I usually avoid attaching ASINs with different track lists
it breaks both information and purchasing from that list of three things

nikki: is artist credit meant to solve the issue of bands renaming?
nikki
good question.
we don't currently have a way to filter releases by artist credit, so I could imagine some people wouldn't want to merge artists if the names are too different
but if the changes are pretty minor, then yes, it solves that problem
Mineo
hm, ok
nikki
and it also solves the different name for legal issues problem, since we can just use whatever name they used on the cover for that release
Mineo
legal issues problem?
nikki
like suede -> london suede, yaz/yazoo (whichever was the original name)
warp
Mineo: where artist "Foo Bar" cannot use the name "Foo Bar" in a single country because it is trademarked there, stuff like that.
nikki
covenant/the kovenant... puffy/puffy amiyumi...
yeah
gah
Mineo
I see
nikki
I hate edits where I would vote yes for one thing and no for another
Mineo
good to know it solves problems I didn't even know about :)
nikki
hehe
warp
haha
nikki
it also means japanese (etc) artists who release stuff in america (etc) can have latin names in the artist credit instead of squiggles :)
is there a NGS problem with multi-discs release that have the disc catnum on each disc (I mean an ongoing catnum +1 sequence like KICS-1182 on disc 1 and KICS-1183 on disc 2, just an example) ?
oh it's a puitty that there is no migration script understanding that when there is a disc1/disc2 AR link, then sequential catnums are to be analysed...
nikki
how do you mean?
jesus2099
so we really should edit *all those* mutlidisc catnums to avoid duplicates?
Having two catnums but it's the same release is weird in NGS link you gave
there is no more disc-to-catnum link now?
but whole-release-to-catnum it seems
nikki
not yet :( warp wants it though, so do I
jesus2099
I want to! But what to do now? edit the stuff like neotheone did? or letting them in place?
nikki
and it wouldn't be too difficult to make it take ABCD-1234 and ABCD-1235 and display ABCD-1234~5 even though it's stored as two catalogue numbers, if we wanted to do that
jesus2099
if we edit : what pattern? KICS-1182/3 or KICS-1182~3 or KICS-1182-83 ... etc... :/
nikki
(I even did it once, and then accidentally deleted the code :( )
jesus2099
*DAK* catnum : I had some doubts too as I couldn't find scan either
