man, I have no idea what to use as the track artists on http://lantis.jp/new-release/data.php?id=18bd8b...
      • :/
      • nikki
well, you will listen to weird music ;D
      • kepstin
        :)
      • but yeah; on the album art, the most obvious artist is "Lantis feat.初音ミク・鏡音リン・巡音ルカ・MEIKO" or so
      • which isn't particularly nice. But just "Lantis" doesn't make much sense as an artist; I suppose I could use the person who programmed the voice synthesizers...
      • kepstin goes off to research which release those duplicated ISRCs actually belong to
      • KingJ
kepstin: I think attributing it to the "manipulator" is probably your best bet.
      • kepstin
right, so http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=12395130 was applied on the wrong release, I'll have to remove those and stick them on the correct one.
      • had the wrong MBID in my copy/paste buffer, and the release it actually went on looks almost the same :/
      • nikki, how on earth did you manage to spot that?
      • nikki
I searched the database for tracks with more than one isrc :)
      • kepstin
        and with different titles?
      • er, wait, I see
      • searched for tracks with multiple ISRCs assigned to them
      • nikki nods
      • nikki
there's almost 400... and most of the ones I've checked are are various artists ones where I've got no hope of finding the original edit >_<
      • kepstin
some quick checking on last.fm is showing that most people seem to be using the 'Lantis feat.初音ミク' form as the track artist, searching the manipulators gets nothing.
      • KingJ
Bah. Lantis feat.初音ミク will have to do then, even though it seems a bit odd.
      • kepstin
yeah, well, the "X feat. 初音ミク" style is very popular with the various people doing vocaloid music
      • one of the people credited as a 'manipulator' there also has their own 'feat. 初音ミク' songs, http://www.last.fm/music/ぢょんP+feat.初音ミク
      • never seen 'Record Label feat. 初音ミク' before tho :)
      • KingJ
I can understand Composer feat.初音ミク, but Record Label feat.初音ミク just dosen't seem right
      • kepstin
it's basically true tho; the subtitle on the album is (more-or-less) "Hear Lantis's music sung by Hatsune Miku"
      • and it's a bunch of anime theme songs published by Lantis; that's the only relation between them.
      • KingJ
Ah, I forgot that this is a remix of Lantis tunes rather than original content. That makes a bit more sene.
      • sense
      • kepstin
looks like on a couple of them they actually started with the original masters; they replaced the chorus vocals chorus vocals that were present in the karaoke versions.
      • hmm. I think we need a 'programmed voice synthesizer on' AR :)
      • KingJ
        heh
      • kepstin
        hmm. actually
      • all we actually need is 'Voice Synthesizer' added as an instrument
      • then the regular 'programmed' ar will work
      • herojoker
        nice

I can't seem to figure out how to get the coverart.py plugin to do anything. Ubuntu 10.4 Lynx, Picard 0.12, coverart.py 0.12 installed in ~/.config/MusicBrainz/Picard/plugins/ (even tried `chmod +x` the coverart.py and coverart.pyc).. I've restarted Picard after installing the plugin. I still never get anything but the generic CD where the album art would be in the UI?
      • ..clicking on the generic CD image in the bottom right of the UI opens up a browser page that has the cover art.. I can't seem to drag+drop, or come up with any other way to get the album art to be downloaded?
      • what am I doing wrong?
      • I've searched the forums, and the Wiki.. found two bug tickets for the coverart.py that weren't any help
      • clicking "Save" button after I've identified the tracks does update my ID3 tags in my mp3's... just no cover art embedded? -my Options->Cover Art prefs are set to "Embed cover images into tags".. I presume it would if the plugin was able to download them??
      • can you help?
      • Mineo
where did you get the coverart 0.12?
      • that's version 0.6.1 which works for me
      • tkooda
clicked on the "download plugins" button in the settings which opened up that url, yes.. then saved the coverart.py to that plugins/ dir
      • Mineo
does the release you're trying to get the album art for have a ASIN or CoverArtLink relationship?
      • tkooda
        md5sum ~/.config/MusicBrainz/Picard/plugins/coverart.py : 5baa4d9383f51f3798a49171fac603dc
      • I can see the cover art on the musicbrainz.org album info page, and an Amazon ASIN listed?
      • Mineo
        again, works for me
      • tkooda
could the problem be that I first identified the tracks in Picard BEFORE noticing that I needed to download the coverart.py plugin?
      • Mineo
could you run picard -d in a terminal and look at the output?
      • no
      • tkooda
(I've restarted Picard since installing the plugin)
      • will try '-d'
      • `picard -d` output of tagging a single mp3: http://monkeyballs.net/tmp/2010-09-16.picard/lo...
      • `id3v2 -l CAKE.-.The.Distance.mp3` output: http://monkeyballs.net/tmp/2010-09-16.picard/ta...
      • Mineo
um, did yu activate the plugin?
      • tkooda
        how?
      • Mineo
        options -> options -> plugins
      • tkooda
I see it listed in the Options -> Plugins area.. but double clicking on it or right-clicking on it does nothing.. it says the Name, Version, and Author(s) of the plugin (suggesting it sees and is able to parse the plugin).. I don't see any way for me to "activate" it though??
      • Mineo
there's a checkbox in front of the name
      • tkooda
        oh christ.. heh
      • BINGO!
      • Mineo
        :)
      • tkooda
it's an almost white checkbox on an almost white background.. never would have seen that checkbox
      • tried double and right clicking on the plugin before.. just didn't see that checkbox.
      • works great now. thanks!
      • Mineo
well, time to change you Qt theme ;)
      • tkooda
aah.. spose yer right.. is incorrect to fault Picard for my theme. good point.
      • thanks

hi; I have a question about artists notability - is there any rule of thumb whether to include artists or not?
      • tkooda has left the channel
      • xlotlu
synta10: no, this is not wikipedia
      • synta10
        xlotlu: great! thanks
      • xlotlu
the only rule is that the artist has to have some sort of relationship (e.g. is the release artist / performs a track etc.), otherwise it will get auto-deleted

If I want to tag a cover of a track to the 'original' track, and the original track was both released on an album and as a single - which one should I use?
      • warp
Lademord: usually you should link to whichever was release first.
      • (if they're otherwise identical)
      • Lademord
        Okay
      • It can be hard to determine sometimes if both RE's are just marked "1997" :)
      • synta10
Lademord: IMO singles usualy come out first
      • Lademord
Roger that. Singles it is unless something's clearly showing the album came out first
      • warp
        really?
      • Lademord
...which leads me to another problem. I want to relate a parody cover of Los del Rio's "Macarena" to the original, but http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/d6cc66bd-c... - which one is that?
      • synta10
okay, maybe not... it more depends on artist's practice
      • warp
I would say the first single of the album comes before the album, but it's not uncommon for subsequent singles come out after the album is released.
      • Lademord
        It's certainly a jingle
      • *jungle
      • or both, lol
      • synta10
Lademord: I would suggest this one - http://musicbrainz.org/release/44bccb20-7172-45... - since it has already a lot of relationships on it
      • Lademord
synta10: Thanks. I was thinking about choosing that one as well, but wanted to be sure :)
      • Now I'm at a specific case where I'm gonna go ahead and use a compilation-track as 'original' (http://musicbrainz.org/track/27cd4941-42ad-46c7... ) simply because there doesn't exist any earlier version in MusicBrainz
      • warp
Lademord: that will have to do.
      • :)

      • nikki
        hi
      • jesus2099
About the duplicate slide down ISRC submission problem of yesterdays
      • I borwsed you ISRC edits through the duplicate finder remover™ http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/81127 and found very few duplicates indeed, but there are two :
      • still unresolevd... now i'm about to parse mines and I think I'll find more of them
      • i mean those two dupes are still unresolved
      • leonardo joined the channel
      • wow 38 edits for me, nikki... and it all began when i started submiting from my library borrowings (used) discs...
      • nikki
I always wanted to do that, but they charged an extortionate amount for borrowing cds ¬_¬

      • I don't know how else to get isrcs
      • jesus2099
i have this "Tau Analyzer" and "media_info" which get the real ISRC
      • for these cases
      • nikki
        are they windows programs?
      • jesus2099
or you can try to (eject / re-scan) them over and over until you get something better
      • media_info: yes
      • Tau analyzer: oh yes also
      • nikki
not much use for me then :)
      • jesus2099
bad libidibidic.... it would be nice if this library that reads the ISRC would be fixed with paranoïac re-(re-re-re-)scanning-raw-sector-reading-code-until-it's-sure like those two programs.. but i don't know anything about the provenance of libidibidic (used by isrcsubmit)
      • nikki
I get exactly the same results for both discs :/
      • jesus2099
Don't you know other programs for ISRC on Unix ? I made a small list for the ones I use in Windows http://forums.musicbrainz.org/viewtopic.php?pid... but i don't know anything about unix
      • nikki
        I'm using a mac
      • jesus2099
fax me the discs i'll try them :)
