quick question. i'm about to add an audio rip of a live dvd, which wasnt released officially as audio cd. should i put bootleg or pseudo-release as release status? or should i proceed otherwise?
2010-03-06 06539, 2010
navap
pseudo-release is generally only used for translations/transliterations.
2010-03-06 06545, 2010
navap
Bootleg sounds better.
2010-03-06 06558, 2010
freezy3k
bootleg sounds so illegal ;)
2010-03-06 06540, 2010
navap
Wait, what are you adding?
2010-03-06 06550, 2010
navap
You're just adding the tracklist of the dvd?
2010-03-06 06503, 2010
navap
The "tracklist" rather.
2010-03-06 06511, 2010
navap
Then it should be official I think.
2010-03-06 06518, 2010

I think that's how I've seen other dvds entered.

i saw the concert once on tv, started recording it and got the missing tracks from the internet
how come 'the' is used 32767 times in both albums, artists and tracks? I got this from select artistusecount, albumusecount, trackusecount from wordlist where word='the';

i assume you mean the fact that theyre all 7"?

top value of....something?
2010-03-06 06508, 2010

32767 is the largest signed two-byte integer

ah, right

navap
Yes
2010-03-06 06543, 2010
dankine
soz to bother you, but how would you recommend adding 14 7inch vinyl single releases?
2010-03-06 06554, 2010
dankine
that are one large release as a whole
2010-03-06 06508, 2010
navap
At the moment, each release entity in MusicBrainz corresponds to a physical disc (both sides of a vinyl). So your only option would be to add 14 releases inside a release group, give them (disc 1) to (disc 14), and also create the proper relationships between them.
guys, will the sides (A or B, 1234...etc) go on the track title as seen on wikipedia ?
2010-03-06 06513, 2010
navap
No
2010-03-06 06528, 2010
navap
You can add it to the annotation though if you want.

hey guys, can i link/import/etc existing releases into this new release group ?
2010-03-06 06559, 2010
navap
Yes, you can move an existing release into a new release group.
2010-03-06 06549, 2010
xand_
ok
2010-03-06 06540, 2010

navap, will i mess a release moving it to this new release group which is the box-set compilation you advised me to add ? I'm unsure about this relationships
2010-03-06 06521, 2010
navap
Which relationship are you unsure about?
2010-03-06 06525, 2010
xand_
i mean this first already-existing-in-database release called blue room ep, i want to "import" or move, (i don't know) it to my new release group
2010-03-06 06543, 2010
xand_
so i don't have enter all data again
2010-03-06 06517, 2010
navap
You can't do that. The server doesn't have any cloning or copying function.
2010-03-06 06549, 2010
navap
If you move a release it does just that, it moves the release out of the existing release gourp and into the other one.
2010-03-06 06513, 2010
xand_
navap, i get it, so i have to edit everything again, even if the release already exists in system
2010-03-06 06515, 2010
xand_
right ?
2010-03-06 06537, 2010
navap
The easiest way to "clone" a release is to copy it's tracklist and paste it into the track parser when you're at the page where you enter in the new release.
2010-03-06 06553, 2010
navap
That will copy the tracklist so you don't have to enter them in, but it won't copy the release events or any relationships.
2010-03-06 06536, 2010
navap
But yes, you have to enter everything again (either manually, or copy/paste), even if the release already exists in the database.
2010-03-06 06538, 2010
xand_
navap, sorry, i can't find this track parser
2010-03-06 06522, 2010
navap
When you're in the release editor there's this blue "thing" at the top. Click config and you'll see options to enable the track parser.
2010-03-06 06513, 2010
xand_
alright, thanks again
2010-03-06 06540, 2010
navap
Not a problem
2010-03-06 06512, 2010
xand_
should have a "remove quotes" function to add tracklistings provided by wikipedia, but this is just a suggestion from a very lazy guy like me :)
2010-03-06 06556, 2010
navap
In the edit suite (that blue thing) there is a search/replace feature. You can easily tell it to search for quotes and replace it with nothing.

2010-03-06 06548, 2010
navap
Are you creating a new release with the same tracklist as another release that already exists in the database?
2010-03-06 06512, 2010
navap
You shouldn't have to do that.
2010-03-06 06546, 2010
xand_
no, i'm creating a new release group which does not exist on the database which happens to be a box-set/multi-disc that contains a release that does exist in the database
Oops, when I said the release title is "The Singles 1996-2006" I meant that plus the disc title. The quoted stuff above is what should be in the release title.
2010-03-06 06529, 2010
navap
So the title for the first disc should be: "The Singles 1999-2006 (disc 1: The Blue Room E.P.)"
2010-03-06 06545, 2010
navap
Please cancel both of those release title edits and submit a new one.

navap, alright, doing it now
2010-03-06 06527, 2010

navap, I think that's just a bunch of tracks somebody has put together for a download. I don't think it even belongs on MB
2010-03-06 06529, 2010
navap
Yeah, it does look that way.
2010-03-06 06535, 2010
Munger
Should I just remove it? I can't find any evidence to support it either way
