        :D
      • Muz_ forgot about that
      • aCiD2
ruaok: you're crazy regardless, maybe that's why?
      • :)
      • ruaok
        oh yeah. forgot about that.
      • yllona
no the C & D crowd are dangerous... lots of stressed out colored women laughing and gossiping....it's not for the faint of heart.
      • ruaok
my crazyness is itching real bad too.
      • must be playa time.
      • 24 days and counting.
      • oh god. that's scary.
      • yllona
ruaok: check teh comment count an each article
      • ruaok knows
      • yeah... C & D is an addiction. i had to ban myself from reading C & D *before* 4 pm, or even better 6pm
      • sometimes i have to force myself to save it until the weekend
      • like this week, tho i peek at the articles in RSS :)
      • but you can't see comments in RSS, ergo -- i can't respond and get caught up in the dialogue :)
      • BrianG
how does one figure out the BPM of a song?
      • yllona
BrianG: there are some online tools, but the desktop apps are much better.
      • aCiD2
BrianG: How accurate do you need?

        hello everyone
      • aCiD2
        hey Dial8urMind723
      • Dial8urMind723
i have a quick question i hope someone can answer
      • when you go to musicbrainz website
      • Muz_
        42!
      • Dial8urMind723
        and u search an artist....
      • BrianG
aCiD2: i'm not sure, trying to mix an a capella track with an existing beat
      • aCiD2
        Oh, so pretty precise then...
      • dunon, I don't mix with bpm counters, I just use my ears
      • BrianG
        ah
      • i'll poke around on the tubes
      • aCiD2
The most precise you'll get is ableton live, and putting beat locators
      • Dial8urMind723
what is the difference between "showing EP, Single, Comp" and "show all releases"
      • aCiD2
But other than that, search for bpm tappers, and metronomes
      • yllona
BrianG: i use my ears too. but there are some decent desktop apps to get you started
      • Muz_
An artist can also have live albums, and compilations
      • Clicking "show all releases" will show those albums too
      • Dial8urMind723
        oh ok... one more thing....
      • what does "Change to Full Listing" do?
      • yllona recommends purchasing an actual metronome to train your ears... they're not expensive ;)
      • i noticed it displays more albums but they see do be many duplicates
      • aCiD2
Are you sure they are duplicates?
      • Dial8urMind723
seems to be... not sure what that does do
      • aCiD2
They may have the same title, but different track counts/listings
      • Dial8urMind723
ok.... is that was "change to full listing" does?
      • aCiD2
changing to full listing shows "uncommon" releases - such as remix albums, compliations, various artist releases, and bootlegs
      • Dial8urMind723
        ah ok.
      • aCiD2
While the normal listing is usually just what the artist themself specifically produced
      • Dial8urMind723
I am a music-nut, and I need every song by every band I like.... so i use this site all the time to make sure I have everything
      • how is that different that and "show all releases"
      • Also how accurate is the MP3 Tagger?
      • yllona
ruaok: e-mail on the way... it's big :)
      • ruaok is curious
      • aCiD2
Dial8urMind723: As precise on the data you read on the website
      • yllona
        hah, i'll call you.
      • ruaok
        wait on that.
      • short on time, atm.
      • wanna get something finished up before I have to head out. tomorrow is better.

        okay...
      • Jugdish__
how do you determine if data is finalized vs. pending when using the xml service?
      • Dial8urMind723
OK. So the MP3 tagger does a great job? How close to 100
      • how close to 100 percent does it do?
      • CatCat
        which one?

      • Dial8urMind723
how close to 100 percent accuracy is MP3 tagger?????
      • CatCat
        sorry, only a mo
      • wich tagger
      • Dial8urMind723
the one called Magic MP3 Tagger
      • CatCat
        dunno
      • why not use picard?
      • Dial8urMind723
which one is the best one to use then
      • oh i dont know!!! i saw both options, i just chose one
      • picard - does it get the album art too?
      • aCiD2
        If it can
      • Dial8urMind723
        ok
      • ruaok
        Jugdish: ya?
      • Dial8urMind723
i thought the one i downloaded is meant for musicbrainz
      • aCiD2
It'll get album art from the MusicBrainz page via album art AR, or Amazon ASIN
      • ruaok needs to leave
      • Dial8urMind723: They are, but Picard is most closely assossciated with MusicBrainz
      • Jugdish
hey ruaok: how can you tell if the data returned by the xml service is finalized vs. pending?
      • aCiD2
And what 99% of us in here recommend :)
      • ruaok
        Jugdish: you can't.
      • aCiD2
      • Jugdish
        oh :(
      • ruaok
what did you have in mind?
      • Jugdish
i wanted to right a javascript front-end that talked to the xml service to make viewing and editing in mb much faster
      • but it sounds like it wouldn't have all the functionality of the straight www service
      • ruaok
that's not to say that you can't add the modpending flags to the XML web service.
      • Jugdish
        oh?
      • ruaok
        should actually be pretty trivial.
      • Jugdish
ok cool, i'll have to look into that then
      • ruaok
each entity we load will have the modpending flag already loaded into memory.
      • in the mb_server source check out cgi-bin/MusicBrainz/Server/Handlers/WS/1
      • that is the WS and its pretty straightforward.
      • Jugdish
ok thanks, was just gonna ask you where to look exactly ;)
      • ruaok
        ok, I gotta run off.
      • :-)
      • back in a bit.
      • Jugdish
        see ya!
