If it's working you should see "Nothing to see here"

And the album still doesn't appear in PicardQt?
2007-10-21 29418, 2007
conan
no its got the algum
2007-10-21 29421, 2007
conan
I'm donig the track
2007-10-21 29432, 2007
aCiD2
then just drag the track into the album
2007-10-21 29453, 2007
conan
but actually if I click another album, it does indeed add that, but empty.
2007-10-21 29456, 2007

conan: you can 'open' the tracklisting in picard by clicking on the little triangle in front of the album.
2007-10-21 29459, 2007
conan
if I drag the track, which I tried.
2007-10-21 29404, 2007

it overwrites any info for track1

Hmm?
2007-10-21 29430, 2007

hmm maybe not, maybe i have to write it.

let me try
2007-10-21 29436, 2007
conan
that could be my mistake
2007-10-21 29403, 2007
conan
btw what do the different coloured lines mean in the album, the different shades of pink?
2007-10-21 29423, 2007
conan
ok my mistake, it needs to "save" the album to copy the tags across
2007-10-21 29416, 2007
aCiD2
different shades of pink indicate how much of a match was found
2007-10-21 29428, 2007
warp
green is the tags on the file and/or the filename match the tags in musicbrainz, red/pink means they don't match that well, to warn you to doublecheck that you're tagging the right files with the right info.

2007-10-21 29433, 2007

is it possible to get picard to get the cover art? in the right view of albums. I select the album but the bottom right icon says "no image available" yet I see the cover album picture in hte loopup?

can anyone give me a hint how i can use the infos given on this page in ARs?
hmm its only writting out id3v1 tags, does that matter, should I include both? I see the "write id3v2 version 2.3 tags(2.4 is default)" shoudl I click this to get both tags? what does the (2.4 is default) mean? is it writting 2.3 or 2.4?

hi shepard :)

conan: picard won't write id3v1 tags, by default it will onyl write id3v2.4, if you check this box it will also write id3v2.3
2007-10-21 29437, 2007

hi :)
2007-10-21 29459, 2007

hmm thats I thought, so I left it unchecked and looking in another tagger it its shown id3v1. although that is ticked too. is it one or the other? so basically I should leave both untagged to get id3v2.4?
2007-10-21 29424, 2007
Shepard
conan: and I don't know why it doesn't show the cover art there :/ about your song: if analysing it to do a fingerprint match doesn't lead to a result and you really don't know the album, well then choose the best match you can get
2007-10-21 29456, 2007
conan
yeah thats what I did, just chose any old album
2007-10-21 29423, 2007
Shepard
oh sorry, I was wrong, yeah you can also choose to write id3v1
2007-10-21 29454, 2007

well, it should always

2007-10-21 29413, 2007

hmm I unticked id3v1 and now I get no tags.
2007-10-21 29414, 2007

well, it should always write id3v2.4, no matter what you select
2007-10-21 29430, 2007
conan
no, not getting them.
2007-10-21 29436, 2007

unless my tag viewer can't handle them....
2007-10-21 29436, 2007

but your other tagger might not be able to display them
2007-10-21 29458, 2007

hm, i didn't think you could have id3v2.4 and id3v2.3 at the same time.

ok its the tagging tool
2007-10-21 29409, 2007

winamp can see it fine

whats a good general tagging, viewing tool?
2007-10-21 29459, 2007

although saying that picardqt seems to do almost everything now :)
2007-10-21 29408, 2007

but guess good too have just a plain editor.
2007-10-21 29433, 2007

you can have id3v1 and id3v2.4 together though. is there any reason why you'd want both for modern devices?
2007-10-21 29444, 2007
chefkoch_
k, thx, i'll add them
2007-10-21 29403, 2007
Shepard
it's long ago that I looked for one but I could never find a reasonable one :) even foobar didn't display what I needed
2007-10-21 29406, 2007
Shepard
looking at my settings I write id3v1 for backwards compatibility and id3v2.3 instead id3v2.4 because itunes didn't understand the latter I think
2007-10-21 29419, 2007
conan
ok
2007-10-21 29434, 2007
conan
although still can't get images to work
2007-10-21 29437, 2007
conan
got everything else working now
2007-10-21 29413, 2007
Shepard
I don't know why it doesn't display the cover art there, but even when it does, picard won't write that into the file by default because of legal reasons
2007-10-21 29420, 2007
Shepard
but there's a plugin for doing that
2007-10-21 29447, 2007

oh right, cool.

conan: i prefer to not have id3v1 at all. i had some broken tools which preferred them over id3v2 for some reason. i guess the tools have been fixed now, but i'd still rather not have id3v1 :)
2007-10-21 29412, 2007
conan
ok, well picard.9 seems damn fast now.
2007-10-21 29424, 2007

so it seems I can always change this later if I need be, no hassle.
