Chocolate probably isn't a good dinner plan
      • BrianFreud
        creature, no :(
      • creature
And who's to say if I did that they wouldn't get removed again?
      • I don't mind (much) re-adding them, but I'd be a bit POed if they were removed again.

a few hundred rather highly argued notes on the style list in the past month about why both have a right to exist, and an agreement that we won't vote down / merge away them now :)
      • That's why I was checking the timeframe on when the other ones failed their votes
      • yllona
BrianFreud: why were they removed, i don't undrstand?
      • creature: hang on before you start that enormous effort
      • BrianFreud
They failed their add votes 1:1
      • yllona
        noone voted?
      • creature
yllona: Don't worry, I'm not chomping at the bit.
      • warp
creature: that's a bit of a weak spot in MB, but it very rarely causes practical problems.
      • BrianFreud
yllona, no, they failed on a tie on add - the "box set CDs should be merged to / entered as the single CD versions, not the box set" logic
      • creature
BrianFreud: Which AR should I use for it?
      • BrianFreud
"release is an earlier release of release"
      • creature
Well, it says 'is the earliest', which isn't quite the same thing.
      • yllona
i'm not the biggest beethoven fan, but i absolutely *adore* karajan
      • BrianFreud
same here. Considering the Gould fans we have too, I'm kind of surprised I've found a Gould or two not in the database yet
      • creature
yllona: So, still think I should hold off?
      • yllona
yeah... do your local thing, so you can listen, but this issue is noisy as of two weeks ago on the list
      • i say listen and enjoy.
      • creature: but that's too valuable a recording to get caught up in some ridiculous list argument
      • creature
I'm adding a couple of ARs to the 2 surviving discs.
      • Now with PUIDs, Amazon links, and AR!
      • yllona
creature: that's why i haven't entered my complete ring cycle (14 CDs) from bayreuth, or my karajan ring cycle either
      • nor will i enter the james levine from the Met (that i just ordered)
      • BrianFreud
I've been holding off classical releases myself, but not because of the box set issue, but because we don't have the "short form CSG" yet for use on releases and not works
      • creature
I should probably subscribe to the infamous 'list', but I know what will happen.
      • yllona
creature: it can get really stoopid.
      • creature
I will get sucked into the world of pedantic arguments, and I think that's a world I'm happy to be removed from. :)
      • BrianFreud
I wish we could get it done soon... lists + our RFC process isn't quite conducive to anything getting done, let alone with any decent speed
      • yllona
creature: pedantic arguments from people who don't own the recordings, and don't attend concerts -- even better :P
      • creature
yllona: Thing is, I know I could be one of them, and I'm trying to spend more time away from the computer, not more time on it.
      • BrianFreud
when style flares up, it'd be the worst thing then to get away from the comp
      • creature
What's the news of the world on the classical wiki-esque DB? Where releases link to a master list of movement names?
      • yllona
creature: good idea -- real life is quite fascinating once you try it ;)
      • creature
I went to my first proper, 'proper' classical concert this week!
      • BrianFreud
hmmm, well, we're working out what a "work" even ought to be, so we can RFC it, so we can RFV it, so we can get it implemented, so we can split "full CSG" off from it, so we can then finish revising "full CSG" and write some basic "short form classical" style on what still should be standardized for tracklists on releases :P
      • yllona
        creature: what? that's fabulous!
      • creature: what did you see?
      • BrianFreud
        and who?
      • Freso
        Okay. I'm going to bed.
      • creature
I was right in the front row, which is apparently the cheap seats for a classical gig.
      • Freso
        G'night all!
      • creature
        BRB, phone.

creature: so waht was your first classical concert, and by whom?
      • creature
      • yllona
        cerature: the barcican? nice :)
      • and andrew litton conducting? what a nice into -- llucky you
      • BrianFreud
        good orchestra
      • yllona
        creature: are you a student?
      • creature
I was right in front of him. I could have grabbed him by the ankles if I had chosen to.
      • yllona: Not any more.
      • I couldn't watch Stephen Hough hitting the keys, but he was right in front of me too. I could have touched the piano from my seat, and if I'd stood up I could have taken out his shins too.
      • yllona
creature: yes, in some classical venues sitting way down front is not the best place... also depends on your hearing

      • creature: if you're a musician, tho. sitting that close can be very exciting
      • creature
        I quite liked it.
      • It would have been nice to be in a position where I could see a score.
      • yllona
creature: that's why i like the 1st level mezzanine... i can still see every thing in the pit, and discreetly peek at the score
      • BrianFreud
I don't mind not seeing the score; I like going to a hall I've been to a few times, so I know about where I want to sit to have the best "sweet spot" for audio
      • yllona
i also have "opera glasses" which basically a fancy name for a tiny, but powerful set of binoculars
      • creature
        Yeah, I know opera glasses.
      • MrQwerty has quit
      • yllona
but agreeing with BrianFreud, in most venues i like to sit further back and up a bit -- so the sound comes together
      • but i love to watch the action in the pit :)
      • creature
I would have liked to be able to see the clarinets, as I'm kind of a clarinet player myself.
      • yllona
creature: barbican is a great, legendary venue.
      • you'll need to be higher up a bit to see the wwodwinds
      • creature
It's very close to where I work, so I imagine I'll be going to some more stuff there.
      • yllona
creature: you're lucky. don't know if the barbican has a "standing-room only" policy, but check and seee
      • creature
I'm pretty sure everyone must be seated.
      • yllona
SRO (standing room) tickets can be as cheap as $10-12 USD here
      • and some venues will move SRO into empty seats after the first movement (or first act, if opera)
      • i used to work the hell out of SRO tickets when i was younger :-D
      • creature
I quite enjoyed hearing it close-up, so maybe I can just do that from now on.
      • yllona
creature: if that works for your hearing... perfect
      • so you caught the tickets for ~$16.00? 8 pounds sterling?
      • creature
        £12 sterling.
      • yllona
        that's still a fantastic price
      • creature
        Yep, I thought so.

creature: my next "must see" concert is this: http://longbeachopera.org/
      • creature
        Looks neat.
      • yllona
i'm liking long beach opera more & more -- it's the little opera company that could... los angeles opera is world class "grand opera" done exceptionally well. however long beach does the small obscure stuff that i also enjoy. and frederica von stade in recital is a major coup
      • kinda like getting NIN to play at a church picnic... no kidding
      • BrianFreud
creature: if you're free on the 27th, I would highly recommend the concert Endymion has scheduled in London: http://www.endymion.org.uk/forthcomingevents.htm
      • creature
BrianFreud: I'll see if there are still tickets available.
