Okay, real question...
If artist credit is "Artist A or Artist B", how best to show in MB?
BrianFreud
lol, the liner itself wasn't sure?
pbryan shall use it in an English sentence: "Billy Taylor or Bill Benford is credited for playing tuba in "Each Day" by Jelly-Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers."
pbryan
Nobody really knows who played bb during this session of 4 tracks.
The documentation (everywhere) is fuzzy on the subject.
BrianFreud
I'd just put it in an annotation then
pbryan
No definitive answers.
And not credit either artist, or credit both?
BrianFreud
not credit either - 50/50 either by itself is wrong, 100% both at the same time is wrong.
pbryan
Aaaalrighty then.
pbryan decides to troll again: MB needs an AR "or" relationship flag.
ruaok waves and gets back to work
Bye ruaok...
ruaok
I'm only moving over one screen. not going too far. :)

lol
Dual head rocks, man.
ruaok nods
pbryan is still waiting for the dual-head notebook.
flickr aside, if yahoo goes away, not a great loss.
if M$ takes them over, I hope that the combined company flounders and makes itself irrelvant in a few months.
BrianFreud
yahoo, no. All the users who tied themselves to free yahoo accounts...
ruaok
google will be glad to add a few more gmail servers.

Does this sound like a reasonable policy to promote: Linking to a Wikipedia page should be for the language of the release.
BrianFreud
no
ruaok
sounds too restrictive
pbryan
Does this sound like a reasonable policy to promote: Link to any damn language-version of a Wikipedia page you can find for the release!
BrianFreud
yup
pbryan
You can find other languages already reference in the Wikipedia page itself.
BrianFreud
links to wikipedia, imho, are just like any other link or data. They ought to be considered solely with regards to themselves, not in connection with other data.
pbryan
So, L-T-A-D-L-V-o-a-W-P-Y-C-F-f-t-R is seriously the better policy.
ruaok
what if we say: "Prefer to link to WP pages in the language that matches the release. If not, anything is better than nothing"
pbryan
ruaok: I can live with that.
BrianFreud
works for me, though I don't see the harm in having multiple wiki links for one release
it's an extreme case of every wikipedia having an entry, yes
but taken one by one, is any one of them incorrect data?
if you only allow the native language, then you'd use .de - and the BBC for example, would not have an english wikilink via MB that they could use
pbryan
Nope.
And, yup.
BrianFreud would suggest the BBC not being able to use MB to get Wikipedia for Mozart = bad thing :P

MBChatLogger: are you aware that SCO is dead in the water, Windows 7 will be a total rewrite (again), and that Gracenote is doomed to die a slow death, while George Bush will be leaving office soon, well timed for the Microsoft v Yahoo showdown to totally distract everyone from the RIAA and the MPAA?

I'm logging. Sorry, nothing found for 'are you aware that SCO is dead in the water, Windows 7 will be a total rewrite (again), and that Gracenote is doomed to die a slow death, while George Bush will be leaving office soon, well timed for the Microsoft v Yahoo showdown to totally distract everyone from the RIAA and the MPAA'

Can't say I've ever heard this before, but I like :)
pbryan: personally I add links for relevant languages (e.g band's native language, main country of release, plus english since it's the main mb language) but I wouldn't vote against any links with decent content
I would certainly have voted against http://sco.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang_Amadeus_... because it's not much better than "there was a cool dude called mozart born in salzburg, austria who wrote loads of music"

I wouldn't vote against any link for Wikipedia entry.
Even if the page is stub, information can be added later.
Ok, now that I actually look at what you said, I agree in the sense that I don't know if adding links in multiple languages makes sense.
pbryan wakes up.

srotta: by that logic, we could add any webpage on the basis that information could be added later... we could even invent some wikipedia links in case someone decides to start that page :)

someone lists something as "will ship worldwide", I buy it and ask for the full total including shipping, then they say they can't ship it to me, then later enter an unpaid item dispute...
like I'm going to pay for something they won't send me ¬_¬...
