should i tag things like (original mix) or (original version) ? i dont see anything about it in wiki. sometimes it's written in the tracklist if there are a bunch of remixes, but it seems senseless

i can't seem to get rid of an underscore in a filename
anyone care to take a look at my script?
navap
What are you trying to do?
jibe
just simple file renaming, but for some reason a song title with a question mark always gets turned into an underscore
Man I'm looking at it...and my mind is starting to hurt lol
Have you tried $replace(blahblah,_, )
jibe
ahah
yeah
too much going on.. probably choking on the complexity somewhere
the replace is working if i try different characters
like if i just do %artist%/%album%/$replace(%title%,_, )
that doesnt get rid of it either
so maybe not fixable
seems like the automatic replacing of windows-incompatible chars is being applied after my script is run
but i thought that was changed/fixed awhile ago
=\
navap
Wouldn't know anything about that
jibe
ah
navap
Hang on..I think you're missing a )
luks
you can't replace _, but you can replace specific characters
navap
Ook..maybe not lol
luks
in 0.10, that is
navap
foobar 0.10?
luks
picard
navap
Wow see I'm so confused right now
I need to go bed, i'm forgetting what channel I'm in
jibe
haha
I was thinking that the windows incompatible chars all got converted to underscores
and then it was up to a script to replace them
luks
yes, but that happens after the script runs
jibe
so my song title with a question mark is getting changed to _
and my script, for some reason, isn't wiping that underscore
is the file renaming script different than the advanced scripting in terms of when it's run?
luks
because the time the script runs, it's still ?
jibe
ahh
right
luks
it was different in 0.9, but people wanted to be able to replace specific characters
jibe
i haven't updated my scripts since it was run before the script
yeah
hrm
so i'd have to basically duplicate the functionality of the program
if i want the same result as 0.9
regex for incompatible chars and get rid of them myself
luks
$rreplace(...,["*:<>?|],) should do the trick, I think
jibe
yea
guess it's a tradeoff
whew
glad that's working finally
thanks :)
luks
np :)
jibe
should throw that up somewhere on the wiki
since most of the examples for achieving this still use $replace(...,_,)
luks
btw, does the $gte/$lt do anything different than $num(%discnumber%,2)?
actually, it seems to be always false
jibe
good question
i'm revisiting this from awhile ago
luks
you check for >10 and then for <10 if >10 is true
I mean >=10
jibe
o
it's adding a leading 0
so disc 10, disc 011?
i guess
man what the hell was I trying to do
yeah I guess it's just adding a leading 0 to every disc number over 10
can't remember why I needed that
so like
imagine media player software with built in musicbrainz support
do you think it would be prohibitive to have some sort of
dynamic, automatic tag updating
regular musicbrainz DB querying and automatic updating of music library tags
navap
I can't wait
jibe
as an alternative to the current tagging workflow of
dropping in musicbrainz and tagging and saving
might be a little unwieldy
people with 100+ gig collections
navap
Well thats why it should actually go the other way around, Once a month musicbrainz should send you a notice (email or directly to the media player) with all the albums that changed in that month, because Picard should tell mb which albums you've imported and saved into your collection
jibe
ah yea
i guess the feature would basically exist as error/accident correction
the music would be tagged and saved like it is now using picard
but maybe regular query to check metadata integrity with the db
like if you accidentally renamed or mistagged with another program
