If I remove them, should they be added some other way?

Preferably ARs to originals.
And yeah, I'd leave them out.
UncleRemus
srotta: OK, you mean that creating an AR from e.g. "Rolling Stone" in this compilation to the original release of the song and by that the release year is apparent?
srotta
Yes.
Earliest release / remaster of AR, that is.
UncleRemus
I see a problem in that these were singles released 60 years ago originally in nearly all cases, do you think I still will find them in MB?

pbryan
UncleRemus: That's a challenge for sure. Also, finding the exact match between your track and the earliest release of that track can be difficult, even for modern releases.
Earliest release vs. earliest version -- without the actual collection of original releases, it's near impossible to determine if it's the same release. Track times can help, but if recordings went back 60 years, could be a challenge.

UncleRemus
Yes, seems like that to me also. But taking away the year indications from the track title should be correct in any case, right?

Is Duke Ellington & His Orchestra the way to enter such an artist? Or is it Duke Ellington and his Orchestra, or other? I've seen many different ways.

I have one question, If I do install a db mirror will the database be updated automatically when a new song or a new edit is entered in the main musicbrainz database?
nikki
there's a script which you can run periodically to install updates
the updates are produced every hour
wait, that sounds wrong
to... apply updates?
to take the changes from the main server and make those changes in your local copy? oh whatever, you get the idea
brick_ijigg
so it's a pull mechanism, which retrieves updates only as they are periodically packaged up for distribution?
nikki
yeah

just saying hi
ruaok
oh hai! :-)
nikki
hi
warp
i'm in a slightly anxious mood, because i want to buy a flat tomorrow, and i'm afraid whoever else saw the flat might have made an offer before i could.
nikki
aww :/
warp
odds are pretty good though, seeing as only two ppl saw the flat so far (and i'm one of them).
petros
owner's flat? Then You'll just make an offer and idf the seller has gotten a better one, they'll let you *know*, belivve me ;)
Aquaman
Yes, I want to have my own mirror of the database to connect to my server instead of the main server, that way I'll be using my bandwidth
warp
petros: doesn't work that way here.
Aquaman
and I would like to keep that copy of the database updated with the last information, last entered songs, albums...
petros
warp: Why not?
ruaok
warp: get there early and be decisive. be ready to act. be confident. those are just about the only tips that I can give...
nikki
Aquaman: you can do that as long as you don't need the info as soon as the edit is entered
petros
Oh yeah, And know what your limit is
ruaok
Aquaman: that's possible. do you have a linux box available for this task?
warp
how do you call the ppl who sell houses for you? broker?
Aquaman
[nikki] no rush, if it's on my database 24H later or so I'm fine with it
nikki
perfect :)
Aquaman
[ruaok] yes I run my server on linux
warp
realtor?
ruaok
warp: re coachella, a friend says: "I was seriously considering going to Coachella. But my past experience at the festival tells me: it's really expensive, the venue blows, the sound is bad, and quite a schelp. "
and she is picky about concernts.
nikki
petros: I've never known that happen here, it's always been the people buying or renting who have to ring up only to find out the place they want has gone
warp: I think they would be estate agents here, not sure
warp
ruaok: sounds reasonable, i'm not keen on festivals either..
ruaok
if you need the web interface or web service go for a developer install.
warp
nikki: ok
nikki
what do you call them in dutch?
ruaok
if not, then go for database only install.
warp
nikki: 'Makelaar'
Aquaman
[ruaok] that will be PostSQL or that? I'm currently using MySQL for my server
ruaok
if you want the live update feed to work, you need to use postgres.
warp
petros: anyway, who ever makes an offer to the broker/realtor/estate agent will enter into negotiations with the seller. either you reach an agreement, or you don't. during these negotiations, no other offers will be accepted.
ruaok
warp: do you have a picture of the place you're considering biuying?
