i believe that any bank taking deposits from the public in the US is FDIC insured by necessity

i.e. that's the reward for qualifying under the federal regulations of what makes a bank

if you look on the HSBC site, the have the "equal housing lender" logo, but no FDIC statement. that should be up-front and center. them's the rules
