        you just don't sort tracks
      • or, you do sort them, but always by the track number
      • pronik
would suffice for most cases, it's a lot better than current unsorted view
      • maybe we should put the poor-man-solution in now and plan the done-right-version later on?
      • luks
        no
      • if I get track list "4 - Asomqew, 2 - Bwerw, 10 - Cwrwer, 1 - Dwrwer" then it's definitely not better than unsorted view
      • pronik
I don't have picard open currently, it seemed to work better than this yesterday
      • oh, well
      • then I'd have to dig into model/view code ;)
      • luks
and c++ code, and sip bindings, ... :)
      • as I said, the model in python is too slow
      • pronik
        a nice exercise ;)
      • or maybe pypy will get faster than cpython before that ;)
      • luks
I've written the "item view" code in picard in every possible way
      • the current one is very limited, but the only acceptable solution
      • pronik
so it boils down to different sorting orders and columns for each tree level, doesn't it?
      • luks
        yep
      • well, in simple case to not sorting at certain level
      • pronik
        defined as (level1 = (AscendingOrder, AlphaNumSorting), level2 = (DescendingOrder, TrackSorting), level3 = (RandomOrder, NoSorting))
      • luks
        there is no level3, I hope :)
      • hm, there is, so it should not be based on levels
      • vincentrichter joined the channel
      • vincentrichter
Wow, what the hell was THAT
      • luks
everything except tracks should be sorted according to the selected column
      • pronik
        third level is under "clusters"?
      • luks
tracks should always be sorted by the track number
      • vincentrichter
Did anyone else have anything unusual happen in the past five minutes?
      • luks
        nope
      • vincentrichter
        My laptop just locked tight
      • No heat warning, no alarm, just WHAM
      • pronik
vincentrichter: depends on where you are ;)
      • vincentrichter
        "Uhhh... why is everything closing..."
      • heh
      • I guess so

        Cool
      • That data track on Class of '99
      • Is it visible to a regular CD player?
      • Like if I put it into a cheap-o Discman one-off and tried to play that track, would I get to thoroughly enjoy having my ears bleed?
      • mudcrow
no idea, the info on discogs lists 8 tracks and mentions a cd-data track, we have the same release with 9 tracks, with last track as [unknown]
      • vincentrichter
        hrm
      • Sounds like they're the same
      • The last track should definitely be [data track] if that applies though, otherwise it gets yanked.
      • Aankhen`` has quit
      • mudcrow
looks to be the same, especially as the last unknown track has no TRMs or PUIDs attached
      • vincentrichter
        heh
      • I guess the logic is like this
      • If there's something on the track that might cause me grievous bodily injury just from playing it in my CD player, I might like to know about it, yes? :-D
      • *screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech*
      • Case in point.
      • Meh, I voted Yes to all your other edits, I'll just puss out and Abstain on this one. :-P
      • mudcrow
it should not affect you playing the CD in a normal cd player. the cd player will not see the track. and any trailing data tracks should be removed from MB entries
      • vincentrichter
"Note, however, that if the data track comes last on the CD *and isn't visible in an audio CD player*, the track should not be entered into MusicBrainz."
      • That's my concern.
      • It seems to be both/and, not either/or.
      • mudcrow
i've never known a data track to be visible in a normal cd player
      • vincentrichter
Which reignites an old debate! AHAHAHAHAHA!
      • Ahem. Sorry.
      • My maniacal side tends to break out of his cage once in a while.

and I'm not going to check every one to see if they are :p

We don't let him out often, the last time we did... well
      • Remember Napoleon at Waterloo? Yeah, that was *his doing*.
      • :-D
      • Oh pweese
      • Would ewe pweese make your widdle ears bweed one time so we can be sure?
      • :-D
      • Not that it's a bad idea or anything. ;)
      • mudcrow
that usually happens listening to the music, data would probably sound nicer
      • vincentrichter
        Boo. Data fan here.
      • I mean trance. TRANCE fan here.
      • Dammit.
      • Screw it, voting Yes. XD

      • i've seen them as the first track, not sure if I've ever come across a final data track which is visible in a cd playe.r.
      • vincentrichter
Hello Warp, you have a collect call from...
      • "Fifteen minutes ago."
      • Would you be willing to accept the charges?
      • :-D

warp: as yet no-ones figured a way of sticking data tracks on vinyl, so i have that many of them
      • koolatron
There is timecode vinyl, meant for scratching on turntables hooked up to computers.
      • But I don't think that's precisely the same thing
      • vincentrichter
Actually, it's possible, but it's a really bad idea.
      • Never give a newbie a 45 and tell them to put it in the PC just to see what happens.
      • It's not pretty trying to get plastic-crap off your CPU's heatsink block.
      • koolatron
