I did all mine as flacs, then I found out that if I use max in osx, I can get the isrcs in the tags ;_;

than then you encode from that: to hi quality MP3, low bitrate MP3, Vorbis, whatever

and it's faster to rerip them than to copy them by hand >_<

and if a new nice lossy encoder comes out, you can use that

i intend to keep all music rsynced between laptop and server

and fast converting to lossy when in a hurry to leave home.. not really fun :)

I just put a few albums on my mp3 player and never change them

Then keep an extra repository of lossy at around 160 kbs. Shouldn' take up too much space

you don't. But you can go as low as -V 5 with lame and don't have to worry that it might be messed up. If it is you can transcode again

When I was at home with 2 computers (one media, one for work) I'd rip a flac on my work computer, rsync to the server, and the server would transcode it to a mp3 automagically, ready for me to pop on my ipod :)

umm, aCiD2: you mean, had i ripped to flac the first half of the cds, now i would be less pissed about not encoding to vorbis :/ :)

store the flacs in /flacs, and copy back from /ogg where it shows the dir structure mirrored, but only encodes on the fly by request
