RickyWh1: this channel isn't really about instruments, or music production
      • but for the record, I have a Emu midi keyboard and love it
      • RickyWh1
        cool
      • ya i am looking to play low bass tones on my keyboard and transfer them to my PC for use in a game i'm making
      • aCiD2
ah, does it have to come off a keyboard?
      • RickyWh1
but when I install the driver, it shows up only as a Yamaha midi
      • aCiD2
you could just use software synths for that
      • RickyWh1
        ok cool
      • aCiD2
recording off the keyboard you'll probably have to go into a soundcard
      • RickyWh1
ya do you know of any good software synth?
      • aCiD2
        what's your budget :P
      • Most of the synths by native instruments are excellent, and come with some great presets
      • RickyWh1
        i want free open source
      • aCiD2
        Hrm
      • RickyWh1
        Arturia Moog Modular v2.2
      • i seen that one for a few hundred
      • aCiD2
http://www.vemberaudio.se/surge.php is probably the most badass cheap synth I can recommend
      • RickyWh1
        ok checking it out now
      • what kind of training does one take to synthesize cool melodies
      • aCiD2
        practice practice practice
      • RickyWh1
music training books or something i'm sure are out there

        How do I get a list of albums with an SQL query? I tried a query that kinda works but which includes all releases of an album while I only want the album name... SELECT DISTINCT name FROM album WHERE 1= ANY(attributes[2:4]) AND artist IN(SELECT id FROM artist WHERE name='Metallica');
      • nikki
maybe you want to select release groups then
      • fuppp
ah.. it seems I need to update my database to get release groups
      • nikki
they were added in may, so it would be a good idea :)
      • RickyWh1
i got my yamaha showing up now but it's showing that the flash memory has no files and the System has one .bup file (probably a backup)?
      • fuppp
release group sounds like it's the group that released the release.. "abstract release" or something like that would make more sense methinks
      • not that it really matters though
      • ruaok
fuppp: better than cultural identifies that the BBC wanted to call them :-)
      • nikki
I still wonder how they came up with that
      • ruaok
it makes sense in a way.
      • culturally speaking people refer to albums and not releases.
      • not specific releases.
      • so culturally == casual, I guess?
      • ruaok quickly relearns C
      • fuppp
hm, there is no "release group" for tracks?
      • ruaok
        no
      • release groups group releases. releases have tracks.
      • fuppp
it would be nice to be able to group all versions of a track including different artists, but exclude tracks with the same name that is not the same track...
      • navap
You can create 'same track' and 'version of' ARs between tracks.
      • fuppp
        aha
      • navap
Although when you get to different artists it might get tricky.
      • nikki
hmm... I wonder how hard it would be for picard to be able to split tracks (particularly the last track) by " / " for rips which split the track...
      • jacckk thinks i should go to sleep
      • jacckk
        night all (:
      • RickyWh1
is there any way to get the exact same sound from my keyboard (which outputs midi output to my PC) to sound exactly the same?
      • i'm using the mixcat software
      • dinog1
question for anyone more knowledgeable about this
      • when creating wikipedia album AR's for a film soundtrack, does the wikipedia page have to be explicitly about the album and nothing else, or could it be the wiki page for the film if it contains information about the soundtrack (ie. dates + track listing)?
      • luks
dinog1: page for the film with info about soundtrack is ok
      • dinog1: but people usually don't like pages just about the film
      • dinog1
        alright luks. thanks.

I have two computers: a desktop and a laptop... When I log in to MB from either it seems I'm automatically logged out from the other one
      • rather annoying
      • any way to prevent that?
      • I realise that *usually* the current behaviour is desired for security reasons
      • how does one find the label code when adding a new label?
      • if one exists?
      • should label names include any "Inc." or "Ltd." (or similar local variant)?
      • warp
AnMaster: that automatically logging out doesn't happen for me, do you have 'Only from this IP address' checked when logging in?
      • AnMaster: yes, "Inc." or "Ltd." should be included if it is used consistently by the label.
      • AnMaster: if the label sometimes includes, and sometimes doesn't, I would probably leave it off.
      • +it
      • AnMaster
warp, about "only from this ip": yes, but since I use both behind the same NAT this souldn't matter as far as I can see
      • warp
depends on which IP it stuffs in the cookie :)
      • AnMaster
you mean it sets it to the private ip?
      • warp
that would be weird, but I didn't write the code :)
      • in any case, I don't have that checked because I like te remain logged in both at work and at home.
      • nikki_
try not using the 'only from this ip' setting
      • if you still get logged out, at least you've ruled that out :P
      • AnMaster
should the inc./ltd./* be included in sort name too?
      • warp
AnMaster: even without storing the private IP, it may be some other cookie stealing protection which ties the cookie to a specific browser.
      • AnMaster
label I'm about to add is "International Masters Publishers BV", "BV" being like "Inc." but for the Netherlands.
      • warp
        besloten vennootschap
      • or something :)
