mustaqila pats mudcrow on the back for his valiant effort to defend MB in the last.fm forums
lauri
me either, apparently my teenager does, since I came across it in the first place while noodling through her mp3's
I'll ask her
if I ever see her :)
mudcrow
blah. muz. talk about jumping down my throat just because I gave an answer they didnt like
mustaqila
Nah, some people are plain retarded and stubborn
I come across it far too often
mudcrow
it just bugs me seeing people sit on their arses and bitch about last.fm and/or MB and not do a thing to help improve either
ojnkpjg
that's what people do
mustaqila
"rawr I don't like it. I'm right because it fits only me in my context. I don't care for anyone else or the greater good. I have a rusty rod up my arse"

i try not to complain about things sucking unless i plan to either fix it or write something better
or at least try
mudcrow
i'll complain if i'm not happy, but I will try to suggest ways to improve things, or find out how I can help improve things.

not everyone has the energy
mustaqila
More so people just can't be arsed
ojnkpjg
most people doing the complaining lack the either the ability to fix what they're compaining about, or the inclination to do so, or both
mudcrow
pisses me off that most of the people complaining that MB is crap cos it doesnt tag their files *their* correct way are usually the same people complaining that last.fm charts are crap cos they are filled with bogus entries.
lauri
I just try to point out to them what they gain by conforming, rather than what they lose by doing so
ojnkpjg
hehe
mustaqila
mudcrow, and that's specifically why I'm not replying in that thread
ojnkpjg
what are they complaining about, specifically?
lauri
he has a point, there is an id3 tag for disc numbers, it's one of the things that this infamous taggerscript could probably fix
ojnkpjg
jesus, you could write a 30 line perl script to fix that kind of stuff
mustaqila
I'd rather spend my time answering/actually solving user's problems or cleaning up the wikis rather than debating with someone who's stubborn
lauri
but telling people how much more useful last.fm becomes to them if their data conforms, and how much more useful their data is to everyone else, works better, in my experience
Nyght
timo-: are you present?
lauri
if all their last.fm recommendations are only coming from the small subset of people who mistag their tracks identically, those recommendations are going to be very skewed, and the more the rest of us are playing along, the more skewed they get
they are posting about it on the last.fm forum after all, they must be interested in these things
(on jenna g: daughter says "I dunno, someone on IRC sent it to me, it's crap"... so that's all I know now too :)

last.fm collects mb track ids, doesn't it?
mudcrow
not sure about that, it seems most of the people in "Get your damn tags right" group dont actually want to use the correct tags either, most seem to think that *their* way of tagging is correct and everyone else is wrong
yes ojnkpjp. if you use a player that submits mbids
Okay, I think I've spotted yet another strange bug.. can I get some votes on this, just to see if it goes to the artist that's been created for it, or if it fails dependency like I'm almost positive is going to happen? http://musicbrainz.org/showmod.html?modid=4723592

The funniest one was someone going "RAWR AMG IS RITE11ejefjw"
mustaqila can't find it now though :(
