Schika: I can't think about the difference between "compose" and "write". To me, it looks the same... and I guess I'll have a lot of difficulties to use one or the other for stuff like free-jazz... how would you phrase the difference?

anyhow, IMO we lack an essential concept in MB: compositions (or tunes), which really are not the same thing as tracks...

I'm struggling with Jazz compositions been played hundred of times...

we sure don't want a composer to compose a tune hundred of times, do we?

not to mention "cover" is deeply inadequate to depict the fact somebody do interpret a (jazz) composition...

IMO, this is what we already (sometime) do when we use the first appearance of the tune as a track, and when we use covers AR to it, but it's awkward... and prone to errors... how do we know what is the very first recorded appearance of old tunes?

that's random thoughts... I'm not sure this is clear... but I've seen alarming edits already that makes me think we might end up with a nice mess of anarchic and multiple composed by / covered by....

people want "composed by" for all the tracks of their album. Nice thing. But they don't want to check/verify ASCAP. And they don't mind if we end-up with artist cluttered with hundreds of "identical" AR "composed by"...

Anybody think they could help me get picard working on Linux?

I'm using the musicbrainz overlay in Gentoo, so I have all the deps

I add it work (debian sid)

but whenever I go to start it, I get a traceback ending in: ImportError: /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_gizmos-2.6.so.0: symbol _ZNK11wxClassInfo8IsKindOfEPKS_, version WXU_2.6 not defined in file libwx_gtk2u_core-2.6.so.0 with link time reference

I've tried re-emerging wxGTK (the package that owns that file), even changing some of the use flags, no dice :/

what version of wxgtk2 is that exactly?

then it requires a first-pass-run to find the fingerprint, retag them identically
