what if MB stored all artists in the english form (after all, MB is currrently english-international, the whole mb_server is not multilingual for example and requires english knowledge), and we facilitate tagging against the alias' in the other scripts, not the other way around. this would make much more sense given the current restrictions...

if i convert an album to VA, i have to click on all the non-english scripts and see if i have selected the correct one (ok, once you did it a few time, you regonize the artist name)

there are a lot of such unconvenient things in mb_server with the current policy

that can be easily rectifyed by haveign the sortname in the search show

i'd agree with this if it had been the policy all along

we can even create a similar option on mb_server where it would display the artist' in their native script (if we labelled one of the alias as such, or added a field to the artist which defines what his default script would be to display)

remember what i proposed a while ago: to use different artist entities for the different languages. i understand this is not what the 3rd party licencees wanted. but now we still display unreadable artist names on track listings for most of the editors.
