MacDome: got a question for ya
      • MacDome
        sure.
      • ruaok
I installed dev tools once again to get clean tools
      • MacDome
        ok
      • ruaok
so now I need to install autoconf and automake.
      • I don't want to install them into /usr since that will clobber the default mac
      • versions.
      • phone one sec.
      • sorry.
      • so...
      • MacDome
        considered fink?
      • ruaok
I went to install autoconf and automake into /usr/local as one is supposed to do these tings on a BSD box.
      • I've really not had much luck with fink yet...
      • MacDome
        my luck has varied
      • ruaok
        anyway, installing into /usr/local fails
      • I can't build my programs.
      • MacDome
        but it's in your path?
      • ruaok
yes, /usr/local/bin is the first thing.
      • MacDome
I guess I just use the default install... or hum... maybe I upgraded them a long time ago... but no, I think I just use automake and autoconf as they ship from apple.
      • ruaok
I would too, but my progs depend on a more recent version and Apple hasn't gotten there yet.
      • MacDome
ah... I've had that problem before... don't remember what I did... I think I used fink in that instance. i guess that would be my knee-jurk reaction is to try fink.
      • after I learn to speak english...
      • ruaok
        :-)
      • Ok, I think I'll try fink again. Thanks
      • MacDome
best of luck. If that doesn't work I'd love to know.
      • ruaok
ok, I'll go tinker some more.
      • Once I can cross that hurdle I can finally release the mb_client for darwin.
      • About time too.
      • MacDome
hum.. fink's version isn't much newer.
      • I have AC: 2.52 AM 1.6.1 (which is what ships...) fink offers: 2.54, 1.6.3
      • ruaok
I gotta figure out the proper way to do this without depending on fink or apply.
      • apple
      • :-( I tried it again and it barfs all over the place.
      • MacDome
I'll be a lot more familiar with this all in another month or so..
      • what version do you need?
      • ruaok
I forget. I'm just installing the latest and greatest.
      • MacDome
it's not likely that the autoconf guys test against an OSX box...
      • so you may have to pull an older one
      • let me try running bootstap on my machine... or whatever you call the script
      • ruaok
I know that if I install it into /usr it works great.
      • nope that doesn't work anymore either.
      • How in the hell did I get this to work the first time?
      • MacDome
do you have a particular barf message?
      • ruaok
oops. I forgot to reset my path.
      • It does work. :-)
      • ruaok sighs a big sigh of relief
      • I need to go merge the darwin_port branch
      • MacDome
        ok
      • ruaok
crap the merged branch fails on trying to find ar
      • or it calls the wrong ar
      • what usage does your /usr/bin/ar print out?
      • MacDome
        emailed.
      • ruaok
        thx
      • MacDome
        rob at eorbit, right?
      • ruaok
        ya
      • msg Rotty you around?
      • damn :-)
      • kyleboon
        haha
      • ruaok
thanks MacDome -- Its a build system problem.
      • Thank heavens -- I can figure that shit out. :-)
      • cool, I fixed the build problem.
      • kyleboon
ruaok: if I want to make an app MB aware, should I use the existing client library or wait for tunepimp?
      • ruaok
        wait for tunepimp.
      • kyleboon
        cool
      • ruaok
I'll have time for tp this week.
      • I know you've heard that before.
      • And I'm sorry for slacking on that.
      • kyleboon
you have other shit to do, don't worry about it
      • ruaok
I will finish it before I go to Japan.
      • kyleboon
        cool
      • ruaok
At least finish it so I can toss it into your court. :-)
      • kyleboon
        right
      • I have the beginings of my Qt linux music manager app working
      • MacDome
        what is tunepimp?
      • ruaok
        sweet.
      • tunepimp is a tagger encapsulation library
      • abstracts all the trm and tag reading and writing.
      • kyleboon
next step is some gui improvements and getting it to work with MB
      • ruaok
Makes writing a tagger a snap.
      • kyleboon
is the new server live yet?
      • ruaok
        yup.
      • are you on the mailing list?
      • 'twas announced this sat.
      • kyleboon
        im on it
      • I musta missed that email
      • ruaok
The servers are noq quiet and happy.
      • now
      • kyleboon
what kind of load do you think they can handle now?
      • ruaok
That is hard to say without empirical testing.
      • 2-3 times the load is a safe bet though.
      • phidauex: you around?
      • kyleboon
it would be cool if we could get mentioned on /. again just to increase the load and find out
      • ruaok
        hahah
      • MacDome: can you please check out mb_client and build it?
      • Not the darwin_port branch -- check out HEAD
      • It should work without modifications now.
      • phidauex: Please do the same when you wake up.
      • ok, I gotta go. back later.

      • we should add MB speficic stuff to id3 v2 tags
      • kyleboon is now known as kyleboon|sleep
      • ruaok
we do. we currently add the track id to the Unique File Identifier in the id3v2 tag.
      • Tomorrow I will add more code to also write the album, artist and trm id to the file.
      • And then I will post a spec about what tags are named what and how to read the data.
      • and lets hope you read your backscroll. :-)
      • phidauex
        ruaok:
      • still around?
      • what do you want me to do?
      • ok, i see, checkout and build mb_client
      • building now
      • looks like its all working, ruaok :)
      • one small problem.. with the 'tagger' test application, it will find matching tracks and list them 1. 2. 3. etc, but if you type '1' to choose, it just says "Query failed: No items matched"
      • but thats probably just a boo boo in the test application, i can sucessfully get trms, get tracks, find albums, lookup cds, et
      • good stuff, you rock the block party till my hair turns grey.

        hey
      • I created a new account (on test) for user mb
      • djce
        Hi
      • ruaok
I figured we'd use that account to run the staging server from.
      • djce
        OK. Cool. How's the tagger?
      • ruaok
what is the best way to give that new user privs to access the database?
      • I've never had to deal with PG perms before.
      • tagger is lagging. :-)
      • The macheads got to me first....
      • djce
If you use the new InitDB.pl, then it should create a new Pg user
      • that user will own the database,
      • ruaok
        DUH!
      • Right.
      • djce
thus have all the perms required.
      • ruaok
        Forgot about thet nicetly.
      • Lemme blow the current db away.
      • Grr. perms are still off.
      • Does InitDb.pl need to run as root to get that right?
      • djce
        On the DB? Lemme check...
      • No, it just needs the "postgres" user to exist.
      • Which of course it always will.
      • ruaok
        crap.
      • User mb still has no right to access the tables.
