I didn't write a review jet. but if i had I would certainly appreciate something common like markdown

Lingo_: We already have markdown.
What I'm trying to decide is whether a visual editor for it makes sense
but even Github added something like it recently, so maybe it does
CallerNo6
dufferzafar, I /do/ think that a wysiwyg editor would encourage more people to use md.
How many more people? No idea.
Lingo_
I agree
dufferzafar
I think everyone who knows markdown syntax will just type it out
so this is intended for people who are new to it
i guess

I just decided trying to write a review
ZaphodBeeblebrox
like caller, I am always confused my markdown, what bits mean that and that. '' means italic, ''' means bold. they are too similar. __ does no mean anything
s/my/by/
and most also is things like :) and XD (especially in situations where it's inappropriate) becoems images instead. ugh, donotwant
CallerNo6
yeah, I don't write enough markdown to remember the syntax, but it's pretty easy to do with a cheatsheet tab open.
If it was a little bit better, I'd say "I hope it becomes the de facto standard", but it's just kinda okay.

CallerNo6: insert that xkcd link about standards and now there's 15
what I don't get is why isn't /italic/ _underline: *bold* text jsut thething
or is that too punbb?
erh that should be _underline_
and :smileynamegohere:
=header= and ==headery==
*hello
*bullet
*list
ah, 'bold' then
but other thna that. simple?
CallerNo6 will always consider /this/ to be italics
ikr?
oh but also \escaped text?\
or [noformat]blup'd.nop/someurl[noformat]
or heh.. how about in settings, a person could chose that version of markdown/bb/whatever they know and understand best and then the system knows "x writes in y style markdown, convert to expected"
CallerNo6
I want that for everywhere.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
individually!
yes :D
CallerNo6
Like, I'm going to go to my grave not being able to remember when a wiki link needs double brackets.
(or when it needs a piple)
ZaphodBeeblebrox
instead, make the site remember which *you* expect and use
or hell, fukken, self define. like. there's fields for "for urls you except what: and then you put in, whatever, so a pipe, or a space or frikken ... @ whaever yo uwant
but I don't want individual sites to keep track of that for me. I want the editor to be a browser plugin or something.

oh. my. god. i .. I was just thinking "there should be a userscript that had that"
it stored which site had which things and then you select you' decisions and it does the conversions before you click "post" or "save" (optionally a button that says "transpose" or smth)
"just type in whatever type of markdown you're used to, then click the "transpose" button. and "markdownery" does the rest! it remembers which site uses which format and trasnaltes your version into theirs! never remembering which site makes urls with pipe and which use a space is a thing of the past! download markdownery today!"
