But here's the thing. I'm doing this one as a practice so I can figure out whether or not I understand the concept correctly. I have a few dozen merges I need to do once I'v e convinced myself I know what I'm doing.
      • Leo_Verto
though I'm not 100% sure that'd apply the merge instantly
      • reosarevok, you've worked with this release before, mind voting on it?
      • CardinalWolseley
Keeping a pile of merge plates spinning in the air when you can't see what you've done is awfully hard to keep tabs on.

Well, that's true, but with merges being one of the more destructive edit forms (they're pretty much the closest thing to deleting an MBID), this system is pretty important for preventing malicious and low-quality edits
      • CardinalWolseley
I see that, yes. One of the reasons I asked (earlier in the day) for a facility to get a preview of what a MBID resource would look like if all the pending edits were approved and implemented.
      • Leo_Verto
That sounds like a really good idea :D

      • Though everything could break when an edit others build upon isn't approved after all
      • Hmm, generally I don't see the issue of working with the release you're merging into, after all your merge is not actually changing that one, is it?

I don't think you'd be changing anything, just your view of what you think you're looking at.

        hey

i am trying to read some tags from an mp3 file using mutagen
      • SothoTalKer joined the channel
      • but i am kind of lost as to which tags are which :/
      • i need the recording id and track id
      • Leo_Verto
CardinalWolseley, I opened an issue for that feature (MBS-9265), feel free to comment on it or vote for it

      • stavros
the recording id seems to be this?: UFID(owner='http://musicbrainz.org', data=b'b00a2b97-53f1-485a-9121-1fe76b55e651'),
      • Leo_Verto
stavros, where are you getting that data from, mp3 tags?
      • stavros
        yes
      • tagged with picard

      • stavros
yes, that's why i guessed that's the id
      • but the key name seems weird
      • Leo_Verto
the track ID should be an ID3 tag called MusicBrainz Release Track
      • stavros
        TXXX(encoding=<Encoding.UTF16: 1>, desc='MusicBrainz Release Track Id', text=['e0777649-9dbb-4948-b72b-ba60c3aa2b74'])
      • that one? i didn't manage to find that uuid on the site
      • Leo_Verto
      • yep
      • tracks don't have their own entity pages, that's probably why you weren't able to find it
      • stavros
        oh, i see
      • yes, i was just substituting it in the url
      • thank you
      • Leo_Verto
        you're welcome :D
