reosarevok: I prefer involved with myself. perhaps it doesn't translate well in other languages adn that's why someone wants to specify the relationship though
in french we have the word conjoint

which is like a spouse but without the need to be married
"a pour conjoint" would fit the bill
but in english I don't think there is such a word
also, instead of changing the relationship itself, something could be added next to involved with to be more precise on what the relationship is (when you add it). kind of like when you add jewel case to a release, you have a list of packagings

But people are using it for "I'm their manager!" or "they worked together" because "involved with" isn't very clear to people
