reosarevok: yes and no... that's a cli tool to calculate the fingerprint but I'm looking for a tool to submit the fingerprint to musicbrainz/acousticbrainz
actually, I should probably mention that I'm the author of bard (an application similar to beets in esence, but currently much less developed, as I'm the only author). In bard, I calculate the fingerprint of audio music (using pyacoustid, of course) but I'm trying to avoid implementing my own submitter
In fact, I would prefer to implement a command line option for picard so picard can submit fingerprints without starting the gui than implementing that in bard, since I guess it would be more useful in picard (and less code to do :) )
zas, Freso, samj1912: opinions about that?
CatQuest
hm i amwondering about these. I think maybe they a re duplicates?
antlarr: acoustid, not acousticbrainz ;) Maybe check how the existing fingerprinting tool does it? Or Picard, that's also python so maybe you can use the same tools
antlarr
reosarevok: they're different? I know they're different projects but I always assumed they used the same database!
reosarevok
AcousticBrainz doesn't fingerprint or anything, and Acoustid isn't directly a MetaBrainz project :)

reosarevok: But acousticbrainz is the project that holds the database of fingerprints, right?
reosarevok
antlarr: No, acoustid is
AcousticBrainz has nothing to do with fingerprints, it analyzes files for all sorts of musical info
antlarr
aah
acousticbrainz has a database of metadata extracted with essentia, right? Or does it use a fork/some other sources?
oops, there's a link to github sources in the main acousticbrainz page, hehe

antlarr: sure, but acoustid doesn't use essentia :)
antlarr
yeah, I see, thanks for the clarification :)

antlarr: FWIW, I’d like a script that submits AcoustIDs via CLI and have been considering writing one myself—I don’t think it would be a good fit for Picard though.
Freso: The thing is I wouldn't like to copy code from picard which already does that, since that would mean maintaining two versions of the code

Freso
I mean, if/when I write the script myself, you don’t need to maintain 2 pieces of code, I’d/ll be the one maintaining it. :p
antlarr
lol
Freso: well, I was thinking on implementing some command like "picard --submit-acoustids <path-to-dir>" where music files in that directory would already have musicbrainz tags. That way there wouldn't be a need to maintain 2 pieces of code
but if you'll implement it... then you decide, of course :)
Freso
Yes, I understood what you meant, and I don’t think Picard is a good fit for this.
