Not sure what's the best way of doing it. It feels like having a general rel for "this is official info about this event" might be useful?
yvanzo
Isn’t that official homepage?
BCMM joined the channel
reosarevok
Well, generally "official homepage" means "it's a website for this event", not "it's an entry on a website for this event"
CatQuest
+1 to having a general "entry on websites for this event" type rel
wiith *possibly* custom ones for big "event" sites.. or are we going away with custom?
CatQuest still finds it annoying that we have custom discog rels but not rym ones
either all sites (with some size) should get teir designated rel or none
should
possibly a whitelist for eventsites? but i'd advise against that personally

reosarevok: I did not find more official webpage for this event.
reosarevok
Sure, most won't have one, same as most release groups don't :)
yvanzo
Isn’t BBC coorganizing Proms or smt?
reosarevok
Sure. The point is not that this is not official. It's that it's not a website for the event
Is just one entry in a huge website
yvanzo
Do they list events they are not part of?
I can see the potential interest of having Other DBs for events too but the given example doesn’t seem to fit in.
Most event DBs are ticketing websites, that might be why we don’t have Other DBs for events.
reosarevok
No, they list their own events. Same as an artist's own page listing one of their events should be linked, but it's not an official website for the event
It's just a part of the official website for the artist :)
yvanzo
Ok, it doesn’t make a difference to me whether it is an official page of the official website of the artist/label or if it is a separate website.
reosarevok
Well, you can't call a random subpage of something a "website"
That's just a subpage, not a website
yvanzo
The relationship is named “official homepage” ;)
reosarevok
.... but that's not a homepage for the event!
It's not a homepage at all!
It's a random subpage in a huge-ass database!
It's like calling a MusicBrainz page for an artist "a homepage". It doesn't make any sense to me
If I clicked that link I'd expect to see the event's own site, not just a short entry about it
Lotheric
it's a 'page' (as in webpage) not a site (as in website), it's the home of that artist on musicbrainz
Well, whatever, I'll just keep on not adding the links for now
IMO that link is wrong, and unless there's a musicbrainzsoundteam.org or something we shouldn't have an official homepage link there at all
But I don't feel like wasting time on this either
Lotheric didn't read the whole thing... You guys were arguing about the musicbrainzsoundteam homepage ? lol
No, about events
yvanzo
reosarevok: it makes semantically no difference to me whether it is a separate official homepage or a subpage of main artist/label/place official website, it is still official, maybe the current relationship type description should be extended to allow this.
Lotheric
ah
reosarevok
But that kind of usage is why we had to rename the RG one to standalone website
Lotheric
still funny though
:)
reosarevok
Because people were linking to discography entries in the artist's website, which is just wrong
CatQuest agrees with reosarevok
CatQuest
strongly

reosarevok: There are many times where I would have liked to link some page to an entity but there wasn’t really a good relationship to use for it. E.g., a Release/Release Group to a (sub)page an an artist’s or label’s website. Or some artists will have a page for each of the constellations they play in, but the constellations themselves do not have their own official websites.
I think it’d be great if we got a way to link these, without making it BBC specific.
reosarevok
Agreed (and for some cases where they get used a lot we could even have autoselect etc) but we'd need a good name for the stuff
Freso
I just essentially copied my above comment to the ticket. :p

Is there a way for me to add a bunch of ISRC codes at once?
reosarevok
ajshell1: not at the moment, but that should change in a couple weeks
The old mechanism broke when we removed the old deprecated web service and the new one requires a couple changes
Or wait. bitmap: is the CORS stuff in beta?
ajshell1
Thanks. If my usage of the grep tool is correct, I have 178 cue sheets with ISRCs in them. So I'll wait for when it's better
Yeah, I'll put the tool up at https://magicisrc.kepstin.ca/ once it's usable on the real db. (the old link will be a redirect to that, it'll still work)
Please try out the ui on the beta version and share any feedback you have.

How do I handle female artists who have gotten married partway through their career and changed their last name?
CatQuest
complain about the patriarky
ok no, change the name
ajshell1
I'd like some more practical advice
CatQuest
and use artist credits
change the name using "edit artist" and do not select "change artist credits"
use artist credits , using the name on the release/thing they release
often, especially if established, an artist will still use the old name on releases
ajshell1
This artist is the opposite of established
She's a singer in a college town bar band
CatQuest
if they are known "professionally" ie "artist name" is the old name, then don't rename but add an "legal name" alias
ok, in this case probably the name shoudl be changed
you cna add an alias with the old name and the new name and use dates on thme to show whne the change happened
(in addition)
ajshell1
So I should create the artist page with the maiden name, than add an alias for the new name?
CatQuest
what? no
rename the original artist
ajshell1
And then use the maiden name as the alias?
And should I check "This is the primary alias for this locale" at any point?
CatQuest
you can add the old name as an alias (can and should) as "legal name" and use dates (from birth to marriage day) and a second alias with the new name (also as "legal") which has a start date on the marriage day
nah
shouldn't really have a locale
(unless she was not married in a differnt place :D)
now, for anything that was released prior to the name change, that should have artist credits with the old name. that is done on the release an recordings so if those aren't added yet no need to worry about that yet
ajshell1
Also, based on the fact that "Sort Name" is a thing, I've finally come to the conclusion that the Japanese and the Hungarians were right all along
CatQuest
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just press "guess" it should 9 out of 10 do it right
oh also for japanese the sortname should be in latin (romaji)
How a Taiwanese bootleg ended up in an American thrift store still baffles me
CatQuest
why not? I'm sure lots of taiwanese triftstores have american crap in them :DD
kepstin: hmm ifi paste a "beta" link in that (which admittedly goes to test) it won't do anything. might want to let it ignore the *.musicbrainz.org part
kepstin: also I like the website and it works, but it would also be great if there was a "paste everything here" block the same as on jesus' isrc submitting thing https://magicisrc-beta.kepstin.ca/?%3F%3Fmbid=6...
(or did he create a script for nikki's old site? i forget now :D)
