iconoclasthero: the only thing I could find about 'playlists' is https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Style/Miscellaneous
      • I think it's kinda of a grey area... As long as you're sure it's no infringing some copyrighted stuff I guess it's ok.
      • iconoclasthero
ah... i don't use itunes so i didn't even notice the playlist in the url
      • Lotheric
although it's not an album per say.. maybe a new broader category could be added like 'playlist'
      • iconoclasthero
        or "collection"
      • Lotheric
        reosarevok ^^ thoughts
      • album, single, compilation, 'playlist'
      • iconoclasthero
        "collections" would include "playlists"
      • well if it needs to be put next to compilation then collection isn't good...unless playlist/collection
      • Lotheric
a playlist is a curated compilation I guess
      • so you could use compilation for it
      • iconoclasthero
so it would be an electronic compilation release available for purchase at itunes?
      • Lotheric
        I don't think it's available for purchase
      • it can be 'listened to' on Apple Music (which is a streaming service)
      • iconoclasthero
        ah.
      • well, then I guess it is rather a grey area.
      • Lotheric
I don't use apple music or itunes either
      • iconoclasthero
        i use my mpd server.

      • well that album/compilation/release/playlist can also be downloaded as a .torrent.

A decent indicator would be if it's changing over time IMO, if not it's not much different from any other best-of compilation release
      • I.e. if it's not like those dynamically generated "playlists" services like Spotify have

I kinda hate where "enter edit" is now, why swap places with "previous" ?
      • yeah, I mean, I really don't like it
      • shouldn't previous be on the left anyway?
      • reosarevok
Because that's the place that makes sense for the tab order, and because enter edit is the first button everywhere else on the site
      • Lotheric, iconoclasthero: these playlists aren't made by the artist or anything, so I don't see why we'd add them anymore than a playlist I make tbh
      • darwin
reosarevok: so you're saying that the real error is that enter edit used to be on the right for release submission?
      • the one place where people are most likely to encounter it, lol
      • reosarevok
I'm pretty sure the order wouldn't bother anyone if it didn't use to be different
      • darwin
yeah, probably. I just have like, 4 years of hitting it on the right, lol.
      • reosarevok
So give it some time, and if people are still not used to it then whatever, we can change it back and use some awful hack like positive tabindex :)
      • Rotab
        userscript time!
      • reosarevok
I'll admit while I usually tab, I've also hit previous a few times :p
      • I mean, that's also an option, sure :) I'm not going to get offended if someone switches it back for themselves :D
      • darwin
I never hit tab in the release editor, heh
      • because a lot of the time it doesn't really tab to what I want it to
      • so I just don't try
      • reosarevok
        That's a bit sad :(
      • Are there some places that you remember that were clearly weird?
      • (I know of a couple, but I think they might need the React conversion to happen before I can fix them)
      • darwin
no, I can't think of the specific place now. Oh, btw, there's a huge pet peeve I have about the recordings page
      • when there's a lot of recordings, "next" really needs to be both on the top and bottom
      • I'm probably not describing it well, but it's clear that the recording you're looking for isn't there, but you still have to scroll the page to the bottom of the huge list
      • to click "next"
      • reosarevok
https://musicbrainz.org/artist/2cd475bb-1abd-40... has it in both places, so I guess you mean inside the release editor?
      • chaban has quit
      • darwin
I mean inside the release editor, yeah.
      • legoktm has quit
      • reosarevok
        Ok.
      • "the recording you're looking for isn't there" as in?
      • Do you mean "I get to the list, I have nothing to do here, but I still need to go all the way down"?
      • Or specifically while searching?
      • legoktm joined the channel
      • (for the first case, you could just click on the Edit Note tab header)
      • darwin
01:08 <.... reosarevok> Do you mean "I get to the list, I have nothing to do here, but I still need to go all the way down"?
      • this
      • if the result isn't in the top 5, it usually isn't there. but if there's 20 results, I have to scroll down to hit "next"
      • my most frequent class of annoyance with mb release editor generally is "I have to scroll the page to continue to enter content"
      • reosarevok
        Wait, I'm confused again
      • So, you get to the Recordings tab
      • darwin
I don't know if it's the zoom level or what, but it seems to happen a lot
      • let me see if I can get a good example
      • reosarevok
        Then you do what?
      • darwin
I click on a track, to see candidate recordings
      • then it presents me with a huge long list, none of which are the recording I'm looking for
      • but to go to "next" track, I have to scroll down to the bottom
      • reosarevok
        Huh
      • darwin
basically if you are trying to add a track with a really common name, like "Truth" or something
      • it will present you with 20 tracks that aren't it.
      • reosarevok
Maybe it is your zoom :/
      • I get this
      • With "Next" just there to the right
      • darwin
no? I get a bunch of candidates with a dot
      • reosarevok
Oooh, when adding from zero. I'll try that
      • darwin
yeah, I am most frequently adding a new release, not editing an existing
      • reosarevok
Ooooh, that. I didn't remember that
      • darwin
a track called "Tango" would otherwise be a good candidate.
      • reosarevok
Why not just click "Edit" on the tracklist on the left though?
      • darwin
because the flow I'm in is cycling through tracks by hitting "next"
      • reosarevok
(I did try "Truth", there *is* a lot of results :) )
      • darwin
similar to when I'm editing artists and hit "next"
      • on the tracklist
      • half the time it makes me just not want to check for the track pre-existing, because in my genre it usually doesn't.
      • I'm just checking to be polite, heh
      • reosarevok
FWIW, clicking Enter does the same :)
      • (if you click Enter on the search field without filling it, it just opens the next track)
      • That said, given how much space there is by the search (at least in my setup) I guess another set of buttons would fit fine there :)
      • darwin
clicking enter? you mean hitting enter key?
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • darwin
yeah, I guess I assumed that would do something different, subconsciously
      • reosarevok
I actually had no idea, I just tried :D
      • darwin
I don't hit enter or tab, because I assume they will do the wrong thing, heh
      • reosarevok
So yeah, something like that would probably be useful (can I get you to enter a ticket?)
      • darwin
oh, the example where tab doesn't do what I want
      • reosarevok
But in the meantime, you can use enter
      • darwin
is when I'm adding track durations, and I want tab to go to the next duration
      • but instead it just goes to the next field
      • probably reasonable, except that the only time I'm entering durations is when there are none
      • so I need to enter them all in series, like adding artists to tracklist
      • (I had sampsyo add "print tracklist" of what I'm importing, so I have the durations for for example something I've ripped from vinyl)
      • reosarevok
        Oh, yeah
      • darwin
wow, I wasn't registered with services.
      • reosarevok
I understand why tab goes next right there, but I have wanted some shortcut that goes up and down there before myself
      • Dunno what, of course
      • darwin
do you really ever want to go to the right? I never have, but maybe someone has?
      • reosarevok
I do - "remove composer from the title, add it to the artist" for example
      • darwin
if I have to add multiple tracks or whatever, I do the thing where you can paste it
      • I can see going right from the title
      • but not from the duration
      • reosarevok
        Sure
      • But it would be kinda weird (especially for accessibility purposes) if you just couldn't go right from there
      • darwin
        I agree, unfortunately.
      • reosarevok
That's why I was thinking of another shortcut
      • Ctrl + up/down? dunno
      • darwin
how about the same modal if you edit that artist gets?
      • if you don't edit, it tabs to the right
      • if you do edit, it gives you a modal with "next" and "previous" on it?
