heh, yeah, I rename "Various Artists" to "Soundtrack" if the release type contains soundtrack.
      • rdswift
Right. I keep forgetting about that. I do similar processing here for soundtracks as well.

Hi i am a MERN stack developer and looked in some projects of MetaBrainz foundation, could anyone help me, on how i could start contributing to their projects.

sparsh: hi! We use Postgres in most places if not everywhere (I don't think we use Mongo anywhere, but maybe ruaok knows something I don't), but there's plenty of React, so that might be of interest. Any particular things you are into?

reosarevok: Unsuccessfully tried to reproduce with a fresh release: https://test.musicbrainz.org/release/a4f73d09-b...
      • Looks like only old releases when medium adds didn't exist yet are affected.
      • reosarevok
        Huh
      • That's... weird, but I guess there's a reason. Still, please document :)

Can no longer reproduce with old release add (type 216): https://test.musicbrainz.org/release/6b2d1604-b...
      • This time I tried to make the exact same steps (except dupe edits)
      • (First time I rushed because there were already 2 yes-votes)
      • So, does this mean edit data and display was misleading again (MBS-10279)? Or did I screw up my setup the second time too?

reosarevok: right, my question is why "submit" is ever not all the way on the right.
      • reosarevok shrugs
      • "it's like that on the rest of the site" is not responsive to my concern, which is why it should ever be anywhere but right justified.
      • reosarevok
I dunno why it was originally placed on the left side of the page
      • darwin
I mean, every computer UI I use all day long pretty much has "submit" or "commit" on the right, because most languages read left to right?
      • reosarevok
It's generally first because that's the first tab after the text, I expect
      • (as in, text, tab, submit)
      • But to me it seems sensible to have it on the left *because most languages read left to right*
      • xplt has quit
      • darwin
but.. but... everyone else who makes computer UI disagrees?
      • reosarevok
So wouldn't you want the thing you're most likely looking for be the first thing you see on the line?
      • darwin
like, I'm not trying to be obtuse, I'm just confused, because since I've been thinking about this issue
      • reosarevok
      • darwin
I've noticed that pretty much every other UI ever has "submit" on the right
      • reosarevok
(maybe it has changed in the last 10 years, to be fair)
      • darwin
I mean, the primary case I'm thinking of is... every windows application ever, pretty much? and osx?
      • maybe I just haven't been noticing how many of them have "submit" on the left?
      • reosarevok
Apparently Windows tends to have Ok then Cancel, and OSX Cancel then Ok
      • Or at least used to :)
      • I don't use either much, so not sure how it's now :)
      • darwin
anyway, I'm just being whiny, I have no actual science
      • just a subconscious feeling that when I want to "submit" I go to the rightmost ui element.
      • SothoTalKer
make it a huge green button at the bottom over the whole width
      • darwin
        fixed forever! :joy:
      • reosarevok
        SothoTalKer: don't tempt me
      • SothoTalKer
        i was serious :p
      • reosarevok
Line one of buttons: a full length ENTER EDIT
      • darwin
hah! windows UI I just looked at. YES / NO / CANCEL
      • reosarevok
        Line two: the rest
      • darwin

      • reosarevok
darwin: to be fair, I think you're right there's somewhat more people expecting it on the right
      • (although nowhere near everyone)
      • Getting more and more tempted to do the big button
      • Maybe I'll write it as an april fools and then be amazed when people want to keep it :p
      • darwin
the big button would probably be fine with me? I mean, it'd look kinda weird
      • but I think I'd be less disturbed by it, heh
      • SothoTalKer
while you're at it, make a separate summary box for each edit :)
      • reosarevok
Now that's a bit more effort
      • Although I'd like it
      • SothoTalKer
        make it optional ^^

      • reosarevok
I mean, it should clearly be optional, and have a main edit note section that gets applied to all of them plus an extra field for each that gets applied to only that edit
      • But it's still hard :p
      • SothoTalKer
