Having a problem with picard 2.1.2 and the Classic Disc Numbers plugin. It won't seem to enable/install. When I look in the plugins folder, I see that the classicdiscnumber.zip is downloaded

eharris: how did you install the classicdiscnumber plugin? Via Options > Plugins or downloaded manually?
eharris: If freshly installing via options does not help, please take a look at Help > View Debug/Error log and see if there is any error displayed
"The Picard team is happy to announce that version 2.3 of MusicBrainz Picard is now available for download."

Should "out" in "Time out of Mind" be capitalized? It is a short preposition, but not listed in the guideline and it is not being used as an adverb or inseparable part of a verb phrase (I don't think?).
Lotheric
I would leave it lower case
but I'm not a native english speaker
evelyn
it seems weird in is there but not out IMHO so I haven't been capitalising it
cheezmo2
I don't believe it should be capitalized but there are tons of cases where it is.

I agree, lowercase "out".
As I recall, the list of prepositions in the guidelines wasn't meant to be exhaustive. It was meant to be a simple rule that non-native speakers could follow without too much trouble.
(I'm not saying that goal was achieved, but I remember that being the reasoning)

So while trying to install the classicdisknumber plugin through the options, I get this error in the debug log: E: 16:19:19,342 /usr/lib/picard/picard/plugin.install_plugin:466: Unable to load plugin: classicdiscnumber.
Error occured: Error -5 while decompressing data: incomplete or truncated stream
but if I extract the zip manually with unzip, it seems to decompress fine.

I even tried deleting the zip and leaving the .py script there so it could use it without decompressing, but trying to activate it through the config just downloads the zip again and gives the same error.
This is on Picard 2.1.2

eharris, is there a reason you're not updating to the 3.4 version (released today)?
Serry, 2.4 version.

you're ahead of your time :)

eharris: what OS are you running on? I can't reproduce this here, neither with the 2.1.2 release nor with the latest 2.4. Must be some issue during network submission, the plugin file on the server is fine. If manually placing the file in the plugins folder works for you just do this

outsidecontext: I'm using the version in Debian Buster (stable)
I've verified that the zip file in the plugin folder extracts fine. The version it downloads seems to be complete and the same as what I download manually, but it still complains with the same error.
hmm, I take it back, the zip file it downloads and the one I manually download do differ, although they are the same size.

Is there any way to merge two releases that don't have matching track counts?
eharris
But putting my manually downloaded copy into the plugins dir doesn't seem to work. When I try to activate it through the options, it overwrites the zip with a new copy
rdswift
elomatreb[m], the short answer is "no". If they have different track counts, are they really the same?
elomatreb[m]
Yes, they were added off the same source but an editor probably intentionally removed tracks to make it fit a single version
rdswift
If one is missing a data track (for example), and there are no disc ids attached, then the tracks can be added and then they can be merged.
I assume that there is no disc id attached to the version in question?
elomatreb[m]
No, no disc IDs (all digital media)
I guess I could merge it into the single version now that I think about it, it would be respecting the intent of an editor over the raw source data though
rdswift
Okay. If you're sure they are the same, you could add the missing track(s) and then merge.
elomatreb[m]
Any opinions Re: Merging it into the single release instead?
One thing that I noticed is that there is a significant time difference shown for the two that you want to merge.
Other than that, I hate trying to review edits with no edit notes. ;-)
elomatreb[m]
Did I forget to leave some?
The 2s time difference would speak for merging it into the real single-track version (which has the same length), but it's all the same recording anyway
(I'm only trying to fix up this artist because they're one of the artists who stirred up that notability discussion a while back, an editor was frustrated with loads of duplicate releases messing up tagging)
rdswift
<elomatreb[m]> Did I forget to leave some? Not you, but most of the other edits.
elomatreb[m]
I think I'll go with merging it into the single
rdswift
<elomatreb[m]> The 2s time difference... The time difference between the first two links is almost a minute. 5:39 versus 6:37.
elomatreb[m]
Oh indeed
The first track on the one with multiple tracks is 6 minutes 🤦
rdswift
It looks like merging into the single version would be a better choice.
elomatreb[m]
Given that there probably also should be a recording split?
