then again, if you believe in string theory..techically all our instruments would be string instruments

      • reosarevok
        heh
      • Well, that's what you get from it being under Piano, which obviously is a string instrument
      • But yeah, possibly should be moved :)

CallerNo6: "inverse propertionate" = "omvendt proportionel" (in Danish)
      • hawke
Freso: that was CatQuest, wasn’t it?
      • Freso: Since you mention Danish: Do you know anything about the danish High Fidelity magazine/reference CDs?
      • hawke wonders if http://beta.musicbrainz.org/series/8c9ad69f-a898-4392-9db6-a6ea4b682065 should be releases or release groups.
      • CatQuest
å ja, omvent proposjonal, jeg er ikke veldig good på proposjonalitet :(
      • wish me luck making quesedilla!
      • kepstin-laptop
        hawke: I'd say release groups
      • hawke
kepstin-laptop: that was kind of my thought as well, that's why I did it that way…but it feels weird to go to the release group page for each entry in the series.
      • kepstin-laptop
well, that's mostly because our release group pages aren't great, particularly for when there's only one release
      • hawke
        yah, that may be.
      • I’m just not sure how it might be improved.
      • can't imagine anything better so that makes it OK.
      • kepstin-laptop
it would be nice if the release group page showed at least partial release information from a representitive release, imo
      • hawke
bleh, why is "piano quartet" not four pianos? Silly.
      • kepstin-laptop
it's not? oh man, all my dreams are shattered.
      • would need a pretty big room or pretty small pianos to do such a quartet tho :/
      • hawke
There are some works like that, it’s just called “…for four pianos” not “piano quartet”
      • CallerNo6
I think I've also seen "for two piano-four-hands"
      • hawke
        yep, that’s another thing.
      • kepstin-laptop
they should include a head count as well
      • 'for two piano-four-hands-three-heads" is entirely different from "for two piano-four-hands-two-heads"
      • CallerNo6
        pieces written for conjoined twins?
      • kepstin-laptop
        or two one-handed people.
      • CallerNo6
totally different thing, not to be conflated

Is the AR "copyrighted by" used to represent the label with a © ?
      • or is it licensor...
      • hawke
        yes.
      • Lotheric
what the use of licensor ?
      • hawke
© = “copyrighted by” and Ⓟ = “phonographic copyright by”
      • licensor is generally a statement like “music licensed from [other label]”
      • Lotheric
        ah I see
      • thanks
      • hawke
(or it might just be a few tracks)
      • CallerNo6
hmm. do most of you understand a style "+1" to mean "yes, I like the basic idea" or "yes, this is done and needs no tweaking"? Or probably something in between, since I don't see people retracting their +1s during the tweaking phase.
      • warp
I think a "+1" means this proposal in its current form is good enough to pass
      • (so, it may be improved by tweaking, but wouldn't be veto'd without tweaking)
      • CallerNo6
Me too, but I suspect not everybody does.
      • Sometimes it might be "yes, we need this badly, I don't even care about the details" I guess.
      • hawke agrees with warp
      • Lotheric
I understand it like in Jira when you vote
      • you +1
      • simukis_ joined the channel
      • CallerNo6
Right, a lot of people seem to use it that way. Technically, only the first +1 matters (it allows the proposal to move to rfv). In practice, it's nice to see the level or support a proposal has.
      • Freso
chirlu`: "I might write a redirect-following bot one day." - we already have one though.
      • It's called "nikki".

      • chirlu`
        Yes, jesus2099 said so.
      • (?)
      • Ah, I was right. ;-)
      • Freso
        hawke: I don't, no.
      • hawke
Freso: k, no worries. I was just wondering if it was discontinued or what, since the last CD we have in the database is #74 from 2003. I can’t find much about it on the web.
      • Freso
CallerNo6: Re: "+1", what warp said.
      • hawke: The name of the magazine doesn't even ring a bell for me. :/
      • CallerNo6: Well, "only the +1 matters" in as so far as 20 people don't chime in with "-1".
      • hawke
Freso: All I can find is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fidelity_(di... which links to a non-existent wiki article and http://www.discogs.com/label/210050-High-Fideli... which says very little
      • Freso
Since that would suggest the proposal being rather far from a consensus.
      • (On that note though, I've sometimes not sent a +1 mail if someone else has already done it, and no one's argued against it.)
      • hawke
per the style process, "-1" means nothing — you just need a "+1" to proceed to RFV
      • kepstin-laptop
a bunch of people saying -1 ar RFC stage is a good sign your RFV won't succeed, tho :)
      • hawke
        yeah
      • I try to avoid saying “-1” in favor of “I think this is a bad idea because xyz”
      • kepstin-laptop
even at the RFV stage, our guidelines say that a -1/veto with no good supporting reason can be ignored at the style leader's discretion...
      • Freso
        *style leaders'
      • (There are two. :))

hi! could anyone, please, tell me why can't i import data from the musicbrainz database using mp3tag? i have "service unavailable (503)" error. was it made intentionally or should i just wait?
      • Freso
brown_fox: How does mp3tag work? How many times have you tried over how long of a time period?
      • brown_fox
Freso: well i'm trying a couple of days so far.
      • Freso
Then I guess it's a matter of the 2nd question.
      • Freso doesn't know anything about "mp3tag" at all
      • Eh.
      • 1st question.
      • brown_fox
Freso: and i just assume that mp3tag makes a query to the site and downloads data that matches.
      • Freso: well it's not a big deal anyway. mp3tag has some options. i just like musicbrainz's approach of tagging :-)
      • Freso
"makes a query" - sure, but what query? And is it just one, or several? If the latter, does it respect the throttling?
      • brown_fox
Freso: for instance: i have Sheryl Crow's album titled C'mon C'mon. i want to tag the songs and i push a button on mp3tag's interface. i enter c'mon c'mon in the "search by album" field and after a while i have the aforesaid error. but it used to work fine.
      • Arthur_Rainbow has left the channel
      • Freso
brown_fox: Sure. I'm not so much interested in how it works from a user interface perspective - more how it works from a code perspective.

      • brown_fox
Freso: i see. But you're asking a wrong guy. But i assume i need to sniff the data exchange.
      • Freso
hawke: Half the time it is, yes. :p
      • brown_fox
Freso: anyway. Thank you for your attention.
      • Mineo: i'll try...
      • Freso
brown_fox: Or look at the source. Like I said, I don't know anything about "mp3tag". I don't think I've ever heard about it before. So it's hard to tell exactly what's up with it.
      • brown_fox
Mineo: problem solved. Thank you! :-)
      • I guess i need to escape them somehow.
      • Mineo
        no problem
      • I'd actually expect mp3tag to escape those automatically
      • brown_fox
You know what's weird? If i type wildflower -- then everything does work. In case of cmon cmon -- i have this ugly error. I think there is some bug in the mp3tag software
      • May be this phrase is a spell? :-)
      • But, from the other hand, if i query another db then everything works.
      • hawke
        brown_fox: it's a bug in mp3tag, yes.
      • other dbs may not have the same restrictions or syntax
      • brown_fox
Okay. I'm not going to waste your time anymore. Thank you for your patience. And have a nice whatever you have! :-)
      • hawke: thank you!

Freso: only problem is that it still loaded a new page so it wasn't that useful in that regard. Of course the new page that it loaded was faster than the current one, so…
      • If 'relate to...' did a popup like the relationship editor does and then applied it immediately, that would be better.
