2be1337: hi, nice to see you here. I'm currently still on vacation and only sporadically available, so I likely won't reply in time.

Regarding the pull requests: I think the main advise is that you should have a single branch with a feature, and if you want to do some other changes you switch to a new branch.

I will comment on your ticket separately. But one note: I think there might be some use for folder watching, but I would not be in favor of the full automation as proposed in the ticket. Picard is really supposed to show the changes before the user saves.

      • outsidecontext[m
We already have enough users on the forums that load all their files, hit scan, then close their eyes, select all files and just hit save. So in the current state I don't think it would be good to actually automate this workflow.

actually no, exactly not. The users then come here and complain that Picard "automatically" did changes to their files
      • 2025-07-20 20111, 2025

      • outsidecontext[m
I definitely don't want to encourage and promote a usage of Picard that is problematic. It is for a reason recommended that you check the results, and actually "scan" is for many use cases not the recommended action.

I just had answered on the ticket. What file format are you trying? Also which install of Picard is this (i.e. was it installed with installer, from store or are you running from source)?

that's strange. playback works for me. do the files play in Windows Media Player? I think that also only relies on the system codecs

you likely don't want to actually use it. but it's just for testing if Windows itself is capable of playing the files.

I actually could only test with Windows 10. Maybe it is also a Windows version issue. I can only test with Windows 11 tomorrow, though

Maybe https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/codec… can help. There is a section about figuring out which codecs are installed on the system.

      • outsidecontext[m
But actually both MP3 and FLAC should work on a modern Windows out-of-the-box. I'll check with Windows 11. Not unlikely that it is an issue between Qt5 and newer Windows.

In that case the Qt6 change will probably fix it.

We had planned to remove the player from core Picard and place it in a plugin once the new plugin system is in place.

oh, cool. thanks for testing. then it looks like a issue of the bundled qt5.
