<macularguide[m]> "JXL is very cool, unfortunately..." <- love jpegxl, but yeah the support isnt there... yet! Firefox and Chromium are _finally_ getting support sometime by EOY though (yippee!).

personally i'd be more interested in the embedded cover art, but it doesnt seem audio containers really support that. ive little familarity with ID3 so have nothing to say there, but w.r.t. vorbis (flac, opus, etc) it seems a bit bleak; afaict the embedded image must be jpg or png.

the CAA is entirely jpeg, right? maybe they should consider storing as JXL using the fancy bit-perfect transcode feature, then serving whichever the client requests/supports. i do something similar for my own services and it substantially cut down on image size. im not sure how it'd scale for their load though.

mib[m]1: i don't think so, i _know_ i've uploaded pngs before. if they're somehow stored as jpeg-only on the IA side, they might be doing transcoding

According to the wiki gif, jpg, jpeg, png, htm, html, jpe, jfif and pdf are supported (https://musicbrainz.org/doc/How_to_Add_Cover_Art)
