mib[m]1<julian45[m]> "i don't think so, i _know_ i'..." <- i know i have too. other formats too. i just assume they transcode as iirc they always _return_ jpeg. e.g. if you see the [CAA API page](https://beta.musicbrainz.org/doc/Cover_Art_…, all the images and thumbnails are `jpg`.

mib[m]1and judging by [this line](https://github.com/metabrainz/libcoverart/b… from libcoverart, i assume that jpegs are always returned. i am unable to find the source for the IA's side though. not sure it's even source available?

aerozol[m]They definitely don't transcode the original PNGs, and especially not PDFs!

aerozol[m]But if you are grabbing the resized images (e.g. 1200x1200px) I believe it will always be jpg
