could anyone familiar with classical weigh in on if it would be warranted to change the release artist to "Josquin des Prez; The Tallis Scholars, Peter Phillips" https://musicbrainz.org/release/8de8c0fe-f944-485…
classical guidelines say to use front cover and spine. technically "the tallis scholars" is part of the title... but i presume the guideline is to prevent excess artists from appearing in the release artist field

my personal motivation is to have uniformity among the releases in this series, though that's not really a guideline anywhere, and i'm not sure about chaning something that may not be clearly broken

reosarevok: ahh thanks for the catch, I thought maybe they were all one track if it was like that in Discogs!
The original editor is correct that the style guidelines say not to add “song by X” as disambiguation just because there are multiple songs with the same title. However, the commentor is right that there are a lot of songs with this title and this helps tell them apart.
I think the song already is displayyed as written by Tori Amos, no disambiguation needed

same when searching for a song with query "horses"

in what context this "Tori Amos song" disambiguation is useful?

When making relationship links, less information is seen than in search results.

I view disambiguation comments as "what's the harm" ... if the information is redundant... who cares?

derwin: in this case the harm is that it is actually makes it hard to read and obscures actually useful information

it is very possible I have not parsed your specific case.

does musicbrainz prompt for a disambiguation comment when adding works with names that are already used?
2022-04-01 09118, 2022
kepstin
that might be the reason for these comments, if so
2022-04-01 09126, 2022

i agree that they are redundant if the work is linked to a recording or has writer ARs

and given the small size of the search box, it does make it harder to find what you're looking for.

I hate that we don't add disambiguation comments whenever possible! Have forever!

With works it's only really because I mainly add cover relationships, and the display is really unhelpful in the album in those cases - lyricist or whatever might be displayed in a section of the page, but it often doesn't match the group name that people know, and I just want it next to the song name, like it is in the title we removed it from
aerozol: in that case it does make sense -- just put something in the disambiguation that is not already there... I use disambiguation extensively as well
