I suppose in picard there could be a sub menu, when you hover on an entry under right-click -> other versions, if the album has split tracks there should be a sub-menu for "joint" and "split tracks"
hmm no the number of top-level tracks doesn't change, for example in tekkaman's case it's 15 no matter what, but the *number of songs*, that's different

Good. Now, if you want this progressed I suggest posting it for discussion in the forums and encourage the users to vote for the issue. That will increase the visibility of the item, and perhaps get some valuable feedback with respect to complexibility and possible suggestions for implementation.

I'm wondering if this is something that would be resolved with the planned alternate track lists, or are the ATLs just different titles for the same tracks?
I haven't really paid much attention to the ATL work because I've not encountered a pressing need for it.
King_DuckZ
lol I got a certificate from discobot, on the website you linked rdswift :D
btw if you look at the examples linked in my ticket, you'll see discogs has a different visualisation for "sub-songs"
idk what they call that feature, but it looks nice to me
and btw, it depends what you mean by "track", but imo a track is something with a beginning, an end and some content, so things that are inherently part of a track are for example: number, duration, acoust id
not title, tho, a track doesn't have a "title". rather, songs have titles, and a track may contain a song, or multiple songs, or even nothing at all
aerozol
Leftmost: if the owner and maybe the logo etc has changed I would make a new label with a disambiguation of when it started. Cause MB doesn't handle relaunches very well
But I don't think using the same label would be wrong
King_DuckZ
and of course, songs also have things such as duration, artist, acoust id (and so a recording), translated titles..... the fact that *often* 1 track = 1 song is confusing but they are 2 separate things. at least that's how I see it
aerozol
MB does see them as separate: track + recording
And a track/file can have multiple recordings
King_DuckZ
so it's a matter of being able to associate multiple recordings to the same track
aerozol
Maybe that's something you could base a plugin on, but it wouldn't be that useful imo because that relies on recordings being linked which isn't always the case
King_DuckZ
because ghost tracks really contain 2 recordings
aerozol
Wait hold on I've probably confused recordings and works there. But you can link multiple to a single track
King_DuckZ
with timestamps?
I wonder if work = song in my rant above

Yeah that's what I was thinking
I think your ticket is great and it's something I would like to see. But I cant see it getting picked up by the other devs because there's just so much to do! So I would be manage my expectations on it if I was you 😔
King_DuckZ
heh thanks
I mean, after 1 year+ I'm not holding my breath, but I'm struggling with some albums in my collection
when you have 100s of albums, it's not like you can remember which one had the dodgy track
aerozol
Set those tracks to 'read only' is what I do. Btw my issue goes the other way too - vinyl rips where multiple tracks aren't split. That's why I thought this could just be handled by Picard. It could do both (with my issue there's no reason to change the MB interface, I don't think there is with yours either)
But even then there's other stuff that I would rather have done first :D
G0d has quit
King_DuckZ
idk, I'm not having any other issue, so in my mind this is top priority lol
everything else is working just as I'd like it to ;)
aerozol
I think you could just drop both files on the track in Picard, Picard recognizes that it's [track A] and [track B] being matched to a recording carried [track A / track B], it tags accordingly, and a variable is added to the tags that tells it to do the same thing when next added to Picard
Same for my vinyl issue but the other way round. That's the most simplistic way I can think of
reosarevok will do it, he's never busy :p
Pokey has quit

King_DuckZ
yeah, that would work for my use case I guess
I don't even think you need a separate tag, there's the mbid of the release already, and if your album has 16 songs instead of 15 then it's split tracks, otherwise it's normal mode
and if you drag & drop one song only in picard, there's the track length
I don't even see how to add these works, as you suggested aerozol... try searching for "il compositore di nuvole" recording on mb, you only get one match and it's 15:45 min long and it's just wrong
I can't see any "add recording" option anywhere to add a new one
