You sure could :P But yeah, genres have been a chicken and egg situation in MB for a long time. Not comprehensive enough to be used for apps etc, so people don't get pushed to contribute.

If you are getting your library tags perfect, and it's all matched to MBIDs, then it's easy to contribute back though! The 'Submit Folksonomy Tags' Picard plugin will let you submit the tags from Picard to MusicBrainz (rather than the other way round)

you could use the feature to tag files with artist genres on releases that have none as an easy option, or last.fm may have them for you to manually copy over as was already mentioned
