KassOtsimine, derwin: Normally, it’s enough to have a single work that multiple people record. But when there’s a clear cover of a specific arrangement, it makes sense to break the arrangements out into different works (Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” Devo’s “Satisfaction,” Franklin’s “Respect,” Hendrix’s “All Along the Watchtower,” etc.).

not sure if I should credit it ot the composer/lyricist or the singers...
if there's a spotify issue with 10 tracks then I would not touch this release
but I would remove the Bandcamp link, as the actual release upon purchase from Bandcamp reveals an additional two tracks, if that exact bandcamp release linked does indeed have two additional tracks upon purchase.
aidalgol
I'm not sure why they mentioned the Spotify release, because the MusicBrainz release does not link to Spotify; Spotify links to this release.
ev
what do you mean?
aidalgol
ev: I was mistaken. There are two separate releases on Bandcamp that look very similar.
ev
OK. in that case I would cancel the edit to append two additional tracks
OK, I see. Wonder what one would do for bandcamp releases that do have an additional track available after purchase. They do exist.
aidalgol
Good question. I just yesterday added a few such releases, and I just entered the track listing as it came in the download.

< aidalgol> I'm not sure why they mentioned the Spotify release, because the MusicBrainz release does not link to Spotify; Spotify links to this release.
because spotify and bandcamp releases are almost always the same digital release if they have the same tracklist
aidalgol
Ah, OK.
derwin
and provides support for "there is a 10 track version of the digital release"
as opposed to "all digital versions have 12 tracks" etc.
ev
well, this is quite an arbitrary thing. they're not techincally the same release, but we consider them the same release as a compromise
also, this is not documented anywhere per se, it is like a discogs database 'rule' which came out of discussion on the forums / mailing lists.
i think it is a bit disfunctional in this respect, so not unreasonable for a relative beginner to not be aware of this even after reading the documentation thoroughly.
I'm not certain I entered them correctly after this discussion.
derwin
well, sure, in theory we could consider each individual streaming service to be its own release
I think that would be extremely pointless and counterproductive, but it isn't necessarily "wrong"
ev
aidalgol: I think what you did was correct.
derwin
there's also the case of the artist posting a release and the label posting a release
should we consider the artist post to bandcamp and the label post different releases?
ev
aidalgol: the listing visible on the bandacmp page (without the two extra tracks int he case of the 34-track release there) should really be seen as a 'preview'

I've never seen them differ, kinda mindblown that they can.
aidalgol
ev: OK, thanks for clarifying.
derwin
though I guess if one buys "mans on road" by TRACKS on gets the instrumental as well
so maybe I have.
I would also add any files available in the download to the tracklist in mb, ftr.
iow, the download is more authoritative than the streaming tracklist
ev
I would persoonally advise (you don't have to do this but it wouldn't be unreasonable to do so) adding a pseudo-release with the 32 tracks, then add an annotation to the pseudo release and/or release group making clear what the discrepancy is
derwin: I don't think this is good advice. most of the files available as extra are just PDFs or JPEGs and they should end up as cover art.
it would be very strange indeed to add those as tracks
the exception will be video content but I've never seen this included, although it is possible it could be
