sortname for this artist should be BĘÃTFÓØT, no? https://musicbrainz.org/artist/fdc48e5a-bdf9-46...
      • also, "legal name" beatfoot?
      • aerozol
lol, looks like that was set by CatQuest? https://musicbrainz.org/edit/86257650
      • The sort name could be correct as it is (de-stylized): https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Style/Artist/Sort_N...
      • derwin
        interesting!
      • aerozol

Hello, it's been a while when I add an artist from the release editor, it's quite CPU hungry and slow. Unsure this comes from my browser so I was thinking of a website update. Looks like a javascript issue. Any feedback on this?
      • also, I think this happens when adding a new artist (popup within release editor) but not when editing an existing artist

It seems like an artist has changed their name (their name was "fernando fernando" first when a certain bandcamp compilation album released, the bandcamp release has been edited to show "s0cky" now). How would I approach this namechange on musicbrainz?
      • ev
it depends if the artist has renamed themselves completely, or if it's just a one-off thing
      • if the former, you could make a good argument to rename the artist proper, if they're releasing new material under that name from that point onwards etc
      • Gladuin
I think they've renamed themselves completely.
      • ev
what I would do is rename the artist on musicbrainz (You'll probably want to find some evidence other than the bandcamp e.g. a message from them or evidence from their personal website), then add a new release with the new name to make clear they've renamed their credit on past releases too
      • but, it would depend on whether this is a new project so to speak, although it sounds like it's not
      • Gladuin
It's almost like their first name was a one-off thing for that bandcamp release, since I can't find any other releases (or an announcement of a name change for that matter) under that name
      • ev
i wouldn't take the bandcamp as gospel on this one, as it can change without anyone noticing - look on the web.archive.org or archive.is and see if there have bbeen changes (whether it's been archived is not guaranteed however)
      • Gladuin
Yeah, the name on the track was different a year ago.
      • If I google their previous name, all I get are results from that one bandcamp release, nothing else. Which leads me to believe that it was a one off thing and they decided to change their name.
      • ev
without knowing anything about this, I'd say you'd probably be quite reasonable to change it, albeit do show you've done a bit of due dilligence by writing a good edit note
